TECNA DISPLAY RECEIVES HIGHEST UK
ACCOLADE - QUEEN’S AWARD FOR ENTERPRISE
London based exhibition and display specialist manufacturer Tecna Display
Ltd recently celebrate being awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for a
second time, having received the first in 2012. It was awarded the accolade
for outstanding achievement in the category of International Trade.
MEMBER NEWS
The second award presentation ceremony took place on the 18th of July
2018 at Tecna Display's North London premises and was attended by the
Tecna team, customers, suppliers, representatives from the Mayor's office
of Haringey as well as the Queen’s representative.
The award was presented to Jonathan Evitt by Captain (Ret'd) Peter Baker
RD DL RNR, the Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of Haringey on
behalf of the Queen and the Deputy Mayor of Haringey, Councillor Sheila
Peacock.
With the announcement being made on the 10th of May 2018, Tecna
Display attended and hosted events for the award presentation in the
following weeks.
The award ceremony and presentation consisted of two events; a reception
held at Buckingham Palace for all Queen’s Award winners to meet each
other as well as members of the Royal family and the second being the
actual award presentation day, held at the winner's venue of choice.
On the 28th of June 2018, Tecna Display's Managing Director Jonathan
Evitt and Director Ivan Shepherd visited Buckingham Palace for the winner's
reception. The winners were hosted in one of the various foyers of the
palace and were greeted by HRH Prince Charles, who shared a few words
with each company's representatives.
Deputy Lieutenant for the Borough of Haringey Captain (Ret’d) Peter Baker and
Deputy Mayor Sheila Peacock presenting the Queen’s Award for Enterprise to
Jonathan Evitt
Captain Peter Baker had this to say, "What is so special about the Queen’s
Award is that it is a distinction you have all worked for and achieved
together as a team. And it is a distinction, because these Awards are greatly
sought after and sparingly given. It is the highest award that can be
bestowed to a UK business.
"I did a little research before coming here today and I can tell you that you
are the only company in the Exhibition Display field to have won the
Queen’s Award and you should be very proud of this achievement. What is
rare and impressive is that you also received the award in 2012. I see this
as evidence of the ambition you have as a team and the continuing hard
work that you have put into the business over the years to ensure you
remain at the very top of your game."
Managing Director Jonathan Evitt and Director Ivan Shepherd outside
Buckingham Palace
The award represents a huge honour and success for the Tecna Display
family. Having the ability to display the Queen’s Award emblem, which
although a UK award, has global reach and demonstrates to the world and
Tecna's customers, that they can meet the highest standards of excellence
which is central to the UK's competitiveness and prosperity.
Philippe van Ameyde, Sales & Marketing Director at Tecna Display:
"Winning this award for excellence in international trade is an outstanding
achievement. It is proof that our products are well regarded within the
industry; it gives our company a worldwide recognition, an increase in
commercial value and a major boost in staff morale. Getting the Queen’s
endorsement is something we can all be very proud of."
FLOURISH TRADING BLOOMS AT
FENWICK BOND STREET
Flourish Trading, Propability’s sister company, worked alongside Danish
fashion label Baum Und Pfergarten, to deliver a range of beautiful silk
flowers for its pop-up store at Fenwick Bond Street as well as the brands
eye catching window display.
The distinctive signature style of Baum Und Pfergarten merchandise juxtapositioned
alongside the beautiful array of faux flowers provides a pop of
colour as well as a cool fresh, but not too polished display.
Flourish Trading consulted on which flowers would be most effective and
provided up to around 150 stems in total ranging from tulips, hydrangeas,
roses, peonies, carnations and sweet peas as well as daisies all in various
colours. All the flowers were positioned in basic plastic buckets and not too
carefully arranged to give an easy relaxed vibe to the concept.
The variety of artificial flowers used in the bunches around the Baum Und
Pfergarten merchandise really demonstrates how faux foliage and blooms
can bring clean and simple design to life, creating a splash of colour in a
simplistic and highly effective way to showcase fashion at its best.
LEACH HEADS UP INTERIOR REBRAND
CONCEPT WITH MANCHESTER ARENA
Graphic display specialist Leach Impact has just completed an interior
rebrand project within the renowned Manchester Arena.
Luxury watchmaker Raymond Weil was recently announced as the arena’s
‘official time partner’ and headline sponsor of the venue’s VIP Icons Bar.
And the Swiss horologists approached Leach to maximise their exposure
within this vibrant space.
create a ‘wow factor’ on their walls. But with Raymond Weil we’ve thought
beyond the obvious, maximising use of previously underutilised spaces
such as table tops, which are now decorated to look like LPs.
The result of this two-week project is a striking, media-rich display that pays
homage to both brands.
Leach’s in-house innovation
team designed a bespoke
lightbox and guitar case with
acrylic face and RGB lights,
in celebration of the legends
who have played at the
venue. Table-top vinyl
graphics, cut-vinyl applied to
mirrors, and 7 lightboxes
with interchangeable fabric
graphics, have also been
supplied.
But by far the stand-out visual is a large-format, seamless and durable
20sqm wallpaper solution – depicting Raymond Weil’s relationship with the
Brit Awards – created using Leach’s market-leading Titan product.
Commenting on the project, Leach’s Sales Account Manager Dan Deakin
elaborated: “This is Raymond Weil’s first in-venue entertainment space, so
the pressure to execute this brief perfectly was high. The watchmaker uses
music throughout its entire global marketing strategy and has celebrated
collaborations with some of the world’s most notable artists and bands. We
were very excited when this project came in.
“As a world-renowned family-owned business whose name is synonymous
with quality, this client prioritises brand over everything. Leach was
therefore chosen as the graphics partner because they knew we could
deliver on the standards sought.”
The Icons Bar has now been transformed into a lively space on the arena
concourse, for gig ticket holders to enjoy.
Dan continued: “So many customers approach us interested in how we can
“The flexible nature of the lightboxes’ fabric graphics also means that
arena staff can change the displays within minutes – updating the look
and feel of the area as often as they like.”
This is not the first time Leach has collaborated with Raymond Weil – a
number of brand graphics designed, printed and installed by the
Huddersfield-headquartered visual impact specialists currently adorn
jewellers, concessions and
shop-within-shop
environments throughout
the UK.
supplying the majority of the shop
fittings for the store seems like a
huge understatement. For a
store that is nearly the size of 5
football pitches, the challenges
would have been daunting for
some suppliers, but RBUK
approached the project with the
same enthusiasm that has been
paramount to their continued
success since Eliza Tinsley
acquired the business in
November 2016.
The project brief was to supply all
of the retail shelving, installation
services, project management,
many bespoke manufactured
displays, turnstiles, shopping
baskets and shopping trolleys, as
well as the trolley shelters in which to house them. In addition to the shop
fittings, office furniture was also supplied by their parent company, Eliza
Tinsley.
From unloading 14 containers of retail shelving, to completing the full
install in 28 days, RBUK were on hand to project manage right through to
opening day.
"We became a huge part of the Trago Family" says Bill Richards the Sales
Director for RBUK. "It's a relationship that has continued beyond the project
and we are very grateful to the Trago family for the opportunity and their
hospitality throughout the exercise"
RBUK's involvement at Trago Mills, Merthyr Tydfil has certainly proved that
they have the capability to handle any challenge, big or small!
MEMBER NEWS
Graphic display specialist Leach Impact has unveiled a new ultrailluminated
product designed to introduce a wow factor to the retail
environment.
Exclusively unveiled to a handful of VIP customers before being released
to the market, Vision Lightwall follows 12 months of in-house development.
Available in three key formats, the products integrate ultra-bright LED
illumination with large format HD-quality graphics, designed to capture
the attention of shoppers on the often-challenging high street.
This self-assembly, lightweight pop-up represents a more modern and
impactful alternative to simple pull-up graphics. With options up to 2m
tall x 3m wide, this particular freestanding Lightwall is intended to provide
brands with maximum exposure in small spaces. The tool-less system is
easy to transport and erect, and CE-certified for complete peace of mind.
In stores with larger available square
footage, the modular Lightwall can
be supplied in sizes up to 5m tall x
20m wide. Engineered with
flexibility in mind, this solution
– also CE-certified – presents an
array of visually striking possibilities,
with the support of an installation
team.
Finally, a series of add-ons can be
incorporated into this modular
system, for added impact. Options
include in-built TVs, hanging profiles,
and the merchandising capabilities
of Leach’s Product Wall Lite.
With no such thing as a ‘one size fits
all’ configuration, clients can choose
from a non-illuminated specification, edge lighting with beam LEDs, the
brightest back-lit option, or a soon-to-be-launched flexible lightsheet, which
enables the system to be rolled up for ultimate movability.
Commenting on the team’s ambition for this product range, Leach’s head of
innovation Mike Willshaw explained: “We recognise the challenges being
LEACH AIMS TO WOW WITH NEW PRODUCT
experienced on the high street, but this is exactly why our innovation team
is here – to anticipate and address these challenges head on, with industry
input. We know that impactful store environments can be notoriously
expensive, for instance, which means brands are often accepting of
lacklustre displays that still represent a significant investment and are often
only single-use.
“But given the level of design, print and manufacturing advancements
within the display sector, it is possible to do so much more – it is possible
to create visually stunning
spaces without breaking the
bank. We’ve therefore
collaborated with retailers of
all shapes and sizes to create
Lightwall, and we’re extremely
excited about its potential.”
Elsewhere, Lightwall has also
attracted the attention of the
events sector. Leach is already
accustomed to supporting
organisations with exhibition
solutions – in partnership with
Belgian-owned beMatrix for
instance – and interest in this
latest innovation indicates
wider potential within the exhibition arena.
“As with the other lightbox products in Leach Impact’s portfolio, the
Lightwall is designed to accommodate interchangeable fabric graphics
which makes it the perfect solution for one event after another,” added
Mike. “The level of waste often left behind after trade shows and
conferences is staggering – this solution therefore addresses the reuse
problem whilst maximising clients’ return on investment.”
PROPABILITY DELIVERS INDUSTRIAL CHIC
TO FENWICK BOND STREET
Propability worked alongside the Fenwick of Bond Street Visual
Merchandising team to create this impressive window display delivering an
industrial yet sophisticated merchandise display. Themed ‘Piping Hot’ the
concept was brought to life by Propability – designing scaffolding style
shelving which was sprayed in various colours. Instead of using scaffolding
planks bespoke clear acrylic shelves were created to create a lighter
element to the display on which to position key merchandise.
Propability incorporated waste pipes that bend up, down and across the
windows - which were sprayed in similar colours - with others treated in a
gold chrome which added further to the overall sense of luxury.
Overall, nearly 50 metres of 160mm diameter pipes were used turning
around 20 bends! The display was completed on the exterior of the
building with two sets of U-bend pipes attached to the outside of the
window to give the scheme some extra dynamism.
The effect is a stunning contrast of industry layered with sophistication.
The merchandise on display offers an additional decadence and style which
completes the theme.
SHOPFITTING WAREHOUSE
SPICE UP THEIR LIVES
“SpiceUp is the biggest touring exhibition of Spice Girls memorabilia in the
world. With hundreds of iconic costume pieces from the Spice Girls heyday
as well as many thousands of items of merchandise and memorabilia it is a
fantastic trip down pop music history for any Spice Girls or music fan.”
When Curator and self-professed Spice Girl Number One fan, Alan Smith-
Allison decided to offer the world sight of his unrivalled personal collection
of Spice Girls memorabilia, he knew he would have girls (and some boys) of
a certain age lining the streets for tickets, as seen when his idols hit
stardom.
SpiceUp will be at Watford’s Intu Shopping Centre from 15 November - 31
December before touring worldwide.
The touring exhibition started in August at the Business Design Centre,
London, customary to The Spice Girls, the UK city that propelled them to
fame and notability. The five feisty girls sparked a new wave in popular
culture during the mid-90’s, stemmed from Britain’s pop music ancestry
home, London, earning them their place in music history.
SpiceUp aims to recapture the spirit of those heady days and the
empowering message of Girl Power that the fab five brought to their
marketing in the wake of a glut of boy bands taking over the pop charts at
the time. This soon became their motto and to every girl in Britain and
before long, worldwide.
With every fantastic concept, so requires reliable support. This is where
Shopfitting Warehouse enters the proverbial stage. Presentation is
paramount so when the director of SpiceUp contacted Shopfitting
Warehouse for mannequins and barrier posts, he knew he’d gone to the
right place.
For great presentation of your outfits, costumes, or memorabilia take a look
at Shopfitting Warehouse’s full range of mannequins. Available in poses
with attitude, or relaxed and cool, whatever you’re looking for, they have
one that will make your merchandising holler, zig-a-zig-ah!
The exhibition has over 300 Spice Girls outfits on display, including outfits
from the Spice World movie, dresses worn by the girls at the 1995 & 1997
BRIT awards, from performances on Saturday Night Live, clothes worn on
music video appearances, Pepsi promotional outfits and the iconic Girl
Power basque worn by Geri Halliwell, shown above.
All is kept immaculate while on show and behind a string of protective
barrier posts, to keep straying hands off these precious designs and just in
case a flurry of Girl Excitement breaks out!
RETAIL DESIGN EXPO 2019
STEERING PANEL LEADING THE WAY
Panel members were keen to discuss innovative ideas, including the
concept of stores that focus so strongly on experiencing products they are
not required to sell anything at all, with events and theatre used to
entertain consumers.
Flagship stores and local relevance were also key issues for the panel,
who also flagged up the importance of retail staff in delivering the new
standards of in-store service and experience that customers expect.
Retail Design Expo (RDE), Europe’s premier retail design event, has
recently announced the line-up of leading retailers which make up the
Steering Panel for the 2019 show.
Now in its fifth year, RDE, which takes place at London’s Olympia with its
co-located shows Retail Digital Signage Expo and Retail Business
Technology Expo on 1 and 2 May 2019, showcases the very latest
concepts, product innovations and solutions to enhance in-store design,
branding, VM and improve customer experience.
RDE’s Steering Panel is made up of leading retailers at the cutting-edge of
innovative in-store concepts, who continually push the boundaries across
retail design, branding, marketing, visual merchandising, POS and POP to
engage and inspire shoppers. The SDEA is also proud to me a member of
the Steering Panel, representing our Members and the retail design and
display community as a whole.
But the panel cautioned that tactics used in flagship stores are difficult to
translate to large estates, and hard to maintain even in single locations.
“People must leave your store having undergone some sort of change
within themselves,” said one senior retailer, who added that customers
expect memorable and engaging experiences. “But you can’t keep doing
that. The cost becomes huge.”
This will shape the 2019 RDE show line-up – from speaker sessions to
innovation showcases and conceptual installations – to ensure the expo
continues to be the ‘must attend’ event that informs, excites and inspires
retail design professionals.
Sarah Adams, RDE Event Manager, commented, “We are delighted to
welcome such a high calibre of inspiring retailers, who are breaking new
boundaries when it comes to delivering innovative, inspiring and engaging
store concepts, to the RDE Steering Panel. The role of the store is evolving
at pace, driven by the equally fast-moving and changeable nature of
shoppers’ demands. Consumers want curated, brand immersive, contentrich
and inspiring shopping environments - and retail design holds the key
to putting the store back as the jewel in a retailer’s crown.”
As well as new, cutting-edge content informed by the Steering Panel,
following the success of the 2018 show, RDE will also move into a new hall
at the front of London’s Olympia in order to accommodate the growing
number of exhibitors and visitors. There will also be a new-look show
format, with the hall designed to replicate a retail environment and divided
into four distinct zones – Store Design, PoP Marketing and Visual
Merchandising, Shop Fixtures and Store Fixtures, and Lighting – making
visitor navigation easier.
To book your stand for RDE 2019, visit the booking page of the RDE
website or call the customer service team on +44 (0)20 8271 2155.
Senior leaders from Lego, well-known for its immersive brand experience
stores, L’Oreal, EE and Hema, the lifestyle retailer from Holland who is
making waves with its Dutch inspired store concepts, are among the new
panel members, who join existing members including Foot Locker,
Westfield and the SDEA. The panel meet to discuss critical issues and
emerging trends across the retail design spectrum.
At the last meeting in October, a number of topics were discussed on the
challenges faced by retailers today. Creating sustainable relationships
with customers, managing the in-store technology that is driving change,
and dealing with cannibalisation of store sales by retailer’s own online
operations, are some of the key challenges facing retailers, according to
members of the Retail Design Expo steering panel.
The group meets regularly to discuss industry issues, to ensure that Retail
Design Expo’s conference programme covers the right subjects – with the
discussion held under Chatham House Rules.
