the Anglo-Saxon sect observing Sunday, the Celtic<br />

Church consecrating Saturday from the days of the<br />

apostles, Moslems observing Friday, and<br />

unbelievers celebrating no day. A law which would<br />

single out any one certain day of the week and<br />

exalt it to sacredness would be sectarian<br />

legislation. Soon the favored sect would indulge in<br />

feelings of superiority and point the finger of scorn<br />

at those conscientiously observing another day.<br />

Bitterness would set in speedily, followed by<br />

persecution.<br />

In this way the Culdees were ordered to<br />

conform or to depart. When King David, the son of<br />

he ordered them to conform to the rites of the<br />
