Dear Typical Dad: Yes it is that important. The August,<br />
<strong>2018</strong> issue of American Psychologist reviewed those scientific<br />
findings. Earlier I encouraged readers to see that<br />
report and I do so again. It is scientifically valuable and<br />
good advice to parents because the review of studies<br />
was so powerful scientifically. The scientific researchers<br />
reported that the research they reviewed legitimately<br />
concluded “… physical punishment is highly consistent in<br />
showing links to detrimental child outcomes… it is time to<br />
end this outdated parental practice.” If you have problems<br />
with your kids at home, please contact your county<br />
Department of Social Services. This is one of the most<br />
important topics this column can discuss.<br />

Dear Watcher: The Charlotte Observer reported on a<br />
study for the medical journal Lancet . That research<br />
found pollution kills 9 million people a year, and that<br />
issue is one our government could address. Also, the<br />
costs of that is massive, about $4.6 trillion a year. Although<br />
I do not advise criminal action, I do suggest you<br />
read the report and contact your political leaders.<br />

350th Anniversary Passport<br />
Edenton NC – The sixteen counties within<br />
the Albemarle Area celebrated the 350th<br />
Anniversary of the beginning of today’s Northeastern<br />
North Carolina region over the past<br />
year. As the year quickly comes to a close,<br />
we want to make sure that everyone has<br />
had the opportunity in receiving the Passport<br />
Booklet. This booklet works very well as an<br />
itinerary throughout the region with an overview<br />
of what you will get to see and do. It is<br />
good for all ages but active students have an<br />
opportunity after visiting and receiving stamps<br />
at all sites to enter a drawing to receive one of<br />
five I-Pads/Tablets/Chrome Books (decision<br />
being made now) that will be available for the<br />
5 students drawn by filling out and mailing in<br />
the Postcard in the back. Postcards need to<br />
be stamped by January 15, 2019 – Drawing<br />
on January 31, 2019.<br />
