CAMDEN COUNTY HERITAGE MUSEUM & HISTORIC JAIL WIN PRESERVATION AWARD
The Camden County Heritage Museum & Historic Jail were
recently awarded the 2018 N.C. Preservation Consortium
Robert James Award for Preservation Excellence at the North
Carolina Preservation Consortium Annual Conference in Raleigh
on November 16th. This annual award recognizes institutions in
NC that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the
preservation of tangible and intangible heritage of enduring value.
The Museum was selected for its commitment to preserving Camden
County’s rich heritage and historic Jail.

The Camden County Heritage Museum & Historic Jail opened in
September 2017 and has seen over 1,000 visitors. Visitors experience
various time periods through the museum’s interpretive
storyboards, furniture, photographs, census records and artifacts.
The museum engages the public and provides guided tours to
local school personnel, classrooms, civic organizations and the
general public.
The Museum & Jail are open on Friday & Saturday from 10am-
4pm through December 15th, 2018. New exhibits and artifact
conservation are scheduled to take place at the museum from
Dec. 16th through February 28th. Group tours will be available by
appointment only during this time.
