Colonel Shaw Memorial Dedication On Sunday, November 18th at 2:00pm, a yearly memorial dedication for Confederate Officer Colonel Henry M. Shaw whose life was taken during the 1864 Kinston, NC Battle at Wise Fork. The Dedication took place in Shawboro, NC (which was named after CoC. Shaw). The attendance was about 20 people which included historian, S.C.V. members, dignitaries, Currituck Historical Society members sponsored the dedication, and other interested spectators along with flashing cameras. The programs M.C. was June Klag who is a longtime member of the Currituck Historical Society, along with presentations from Bill Ward doing a gun salute, E.G. Swain, Bob Justiss did the invocation and Gregory Dozier played taps and a wreath was laid at the grave site of Colonel Shaw by E.G. Swain and June Klag just up the road a piece. A Currituck Woman Honored At the November 15th meeting of the Albemarle Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, Sandra Wright Justiss was honored with the prestigious Martha Washington Medal for sharing her knowledge and portal of Martha Washington and Sandra’s presentations and hard work of the first First Lady. Sandra is also looked up to for her correct historical information of Early America. Sandra also creates identical replicas of Early American dolls. Sandra is looked up to in her affiliations with the S.A.R., The D.A.R., The S.C.V., and the U.D.C. and an all around great person to know.
