information, check out the Daily Advance online calendar.
And when all the decorations are put away, the last cookie eaten,
and Aunt Mabel’s heirloom fruitcake has been discreetly disposed
of – get ready for Encore’s opening of the first production of our
E
lizabeth City Habitat for Humanity
proudly dedicated its latest house at
108 W. Broad St. on Nov. 17, just in time
for the new homeowners to celebrate
Thanksgiving in their new home. Owners
Ricky Norman and Gloria Saunders
received the keys to their new home during
the ceremony and ribbon cutting.
Selection as homeowners is a lengthy
process which involves a credit check,
examination of their ability to pay the mortgage,
a home visit to determine the need
for a new home, and completion of sweat
equity hours. They were required to attend
first time homebuyer classes at River City
Community Development Corporation
which included budgeting and credit counseling
components.
Homeowners must complete sweat
equity to show that they are partnering with
Habitat. Ricky and Gloria completed nearly
300 hours of sweat equity and more than
1500 hours of volunteer time were donated
during this project.
We are currently accepting applications
