Alpinestars’ Specter jacket is a sports riding garment<br />
created to fit the Tech-Air airbag. It certainly looks the<br />
part in terms of fitting the company’s cutting-edge<br />
safety technology and having been crafted of 1.0-<br />
1.2mm leather with four way stretch panels with a<br />
water repelling treatment. There are two front zippered<br />
pockets and customary fit options around the<br />
waist and sleeves and low profile collar for comfort.<br />
The firm say the pre-curved sleeve construction<br />
means ‘an improved riding fit and reduced fatigue’.<br />
If Tech-Air is not installed then the coat will<br />
accommodate the Level 2 CE-certified Alpinestars<br />
Nucleon Back protector and already comes with Level<br />
1 protection on the shoulders and elbows. A suitable<br />
compliment is the Sektor waterproof shoe. They are<br />
obviously aiming for maximum efficiency with comfort<br />
but ‘Astars’ also like to get technical with the<br />
creation of their footwear.<br />
The Sektor has: ‘a lightweight microfiber main chassis<br />
and incorporating medial and lateral protection, as<br />
well as a reinforced toe-box. The Sektor Waterproof<br />
Shoe also has a<br />
waterproof membrane and a specially developed<br />
rubber compound sole designed to give exceptional<br />
levels of water run-off and grip. The sole has an<br />
integrated shank for footpeg support and structural<br />
rigidity.’ It’s never easy to make a shoe that is<br />
actually effective against the elements, allows<br />
sensitivity on the bike, is comfortable for walking<br />
afterwards and resists enough road mileage over<br />
time. Of course it is hard to say if the Sektor makes<br />
the grade but the list of attributes should mean it is a<br />
worthy contender.
