OCYC racing results
The Ocean City-Cape . May
Challenge Cup Race was sailed
by a fleet of 35 boats on August
JO. The 30-mile race, from
Ocean City to Cape May, was
the. second in the three-race
South Jersey Ocean Racing
Association Championship..
. The race results indicate the
- close competition within the
three classes. Britton Chance
was tin .board with Randy
Scarborough as Wildflower, his
latest two ton, took A Class and
the overall trophy very handily.
Two Heritage One Tons; Frank
Peloai's Double Edge'and Jack
LeFort'sFtfi Warrior, fought to
keep within striking distance of
Wildflower, but the beautiful
new' centerboarder increased
its lead throughout the race.
Double Edge and Fiji Warrior
took second and third place in A
Class. •
Dawn, George Hafer's Carter
33, won B Class honors over Sin •
City, a Carter 30 owned by Fred
Wiedeke, and Chargette, Rich
Halajian's Ericson 34, as only
three minutes separated' the
' first three B Class places, in-
dicating the close competition
in this class.
' The C Class, which has grown
considerably over the past
year, had 19 boats compete for
first place honors. Serendipity,
a Seafarer 34 owned by • Ed
Stanton, could have easily been
mistaken for an A or B. Class
boat in this race as it crossed
paths with. IOJB boats.
throughout the race and led the
C Class over the finish line.
However, Twilight Zone, Don
Pussehl's Paceship23, was able
to save its* time over Seren-
dipity and take the top honors in
C Class. Art Henry's Ericson
27, Valentine, followed
Serendipity to take third place
in this class.

dominated by A Class boats .
with Wildflower taking first
place, Double Edge second and.

The final race' of the.
&J.Y.R.A Series, the Cape'
.May Cup, will be raced on
August 27, after which the race
and championship awards will
be presented to the winning
boats. -

peak as Junior Sailing enters
the final week of competition at
Ocean City Yacht dub.
The battle for first and
second place in the "A" boards
continues as Brian and Andy
Hitchings 1 each took a first
place last week to keep the
battle alive. Another brother
combination, Vince and An-
drew Bellwoar won second
place each in Wednesday's two
races. Finishing first and third
in last week's competition, D. J.
Walters, strives to improve his
position hi the fleet. It was nice
to see Lizanne Backe, oneof our
female contenders, take a third

two of last week's races. Ross'
brother, Scott, and sister,
Sandy, aje both crews in the
GP-Open fleet.
Last year's "A" Sunfish Fleet
winner, Don Wagoner, and
second place winner; Nan
Leute, reversed the tide last
Friday while ' sailing unof-
ficially with this year's "A"
boards: Nan Leute left Don
Wagoner hi a wake as she
crossed the line ahead of him.

Martin and Tuna~^
Fishing Club
This week the club has the
results of two tournaments to
report. The martin tournament
held August 20 was won by
Charley Elder on board Lou
Quillen's "Four Q's." They
released a 135-pound blue
martin while fishing the
Baltimore Canyon:
The second tournament had
two categories, largest fish
under 40 pounds and largest
fish over 40 pounds, not trolling.
The "Grumpy Marie IIP' took
top honors hi the under 40 pound'
category with Earl Brown
landing a 19 pounder. Chris
Qualifying heat races for the
late model stock cars went to
Harvey Conrson and Ralph
Brouchard with Craig Woods
taking the consolation. The
sportsman preliminaries were
won by Warren Frye, John
McGill and Chuck Warner
while the consolation was taken
by John LeVance.
The VW sprint cars made
' their final appearance of the
1977 season with Bob Isles
taking the feature victory and
Ben Simon grabbing the second
place position. Mike Robbins
got third followed by Frank
Kozlowski and Jack Hesley.
Sportsman, and. late model
stock car racing returns to the
Atlantic City~Speedway. on
Sunday night, August 28, with
the running of tfie Howard Betts
Memorial for sportsman.
