All Stars evened the series by sweeping a pair from the 34th st: playground. The 11-12 year , olds from the 6th st. opened.the game, with five first inning .runs; and coasted to a 14-2 victory over the 34th st. rivals. Winning pitcher Todd Henry ted the hitting attack with four hits, while Mark Lefever, Chris Sen wen k, and Art Sinclair chipped in with two hits apiece. The 6th Streeters also got excellent defensive play, from Al Watts, Mark Wright, and Brent Kline The highlight of the game for the winners was Tony Ricco's fifth inning blast over the center field fence, Ricco also contributed a double and triple to the. attack. The 34th Streeters got strong hitting from catcher Joe Reiliy (3 hits), and Basil Beck and Anthony Costa (2 hits apiece). Jeff Mott and second baseman Joe Reiliy also contributed to the offensive attack, while Paul ' Rostien, Jim Miades, and Jim Kaufman excelled defensively for the Southenders. Ocean City's 6th Street All Star baseball team (ages 8-10) defeated the 34th Street Alll Stars Friday morning on the basebairdiamond at 6th st. and~ Bay av. The final score was 10- 5.. - • Things got rolling for the 6th Street All Stars in the first inning when Chip Mathes, Scott McKinsey and Paul Novasitis hit three consecutive singles. Then, with the bases loaded, David Judge tripled in three runs to put his team out in front *O. From then on it proved to be'an easy outing for the 6th Street club. Their lead was increased to 7-0 by the third inning thanks to the fine hitting performance of Brad Durkin, the starting pitcher, Bob Goudle, Mike DeVlieger, Randy Silvis, Dave Elieger, Louis Oswald, John BeOwaor and Scott Stevens. George Williams caught flounder that ranged to 444 pounds on Monday. He was using minnows (which are scarce). - , Bob Dawson, who was fishing aboard the Timteeka III. captained by Tim Fitzgerald, caught, a nice bluefish that weighed 14 pounds, four ounces and was 33 inches long. Along .. on that trip was his wife, Doris, : Elmer Agelo, George Becthel and Joe Nesta. They were using ; plainers with tubes. All in all g they boated three bluefish. £ .Sal Deldeo, on the Flim Flam : II, and Tom Heaney caught 10 * flounder. Four of them were six pounds. They also bad three that weighed nine pounds, six ounces; 10 pounds, two ounces, and one that weighed 11 pounds, two ounces. They were at the inlet and using my old standby, bucktail and squid. At the top of the tide, Bob Eleven was also fishing at the inlet ._In^juBt_one-hourLand-ahalf, he caught 27 flounder. \ -three pounds to 4'^ pounds, and ; four wealdes. Again, that good old bucktail and squid was used. Down at Delaware Bay aboard the Miss Diane was Mark Chrjstianson, who bailed wealdes that averaged three to sbrpounds. There for a while we didn't see any. .Now they seem to be showing again. It seems that four fellows from Campbell's Fish Market by the names of Jim Fransler, Jun Kirk, Jack McGovern and Greg Vernon decided that they db&rt see enough of fish, so they chartered The Viking, Captained by Norman Hofsurd, on their day off from work. They went to the stone beds and his son; Terry, went 180 degrees off the G.E. BeD for about eight miles. Came on to the stone beds and, lo and behold, fish. He'managed to brinrfm lSMueflsh. On the way back in. about itt miles, he caught about 25 smaller bluefish. They were the Foxy Lady, captained by Garry Powell,- went to the" Atlantic City pots on Saturday. Along with him was Steve Germmoutb, Dick Germmouth, Joe Murphy, Dick Miller, Mike Starlach, of Baltimore, Md., and Jack Cashman, of Margate. They caught 24 Uuefish, 12 of mem ranging to lftfc pounds. Good eaten, eh? On Monday, he went to the stone beds and took the Hawks family. They are Henry, Am, Tom and Mary Hawks from Pittsburgh, Pa. They caught 28 bluefish that averaged eight to 17 pounds..That made a nice day's work. S-L staffer Tom Watktos, and a former fishing reporter, 'continued his fishless string last Saturday when rain dampened his spirits and those of lit fishing buddies in the Atlantic City small boaat Uuefish tournament. After a phone call to me on Friday night for a little bit of advice about where to go and what to look for, the rains came and Tom and friends didn't even get their lines wet. Apparently the real loser in the rainstorm was Bill Bleakeley who traveled all the' way from Bay Head for the tournament. At least he had a nice boat ride on Friday.
