The New Jersey steel-shot
regulations are included in a
proposed amendment ' to the
1977-78 Game Code to be aired
at a public hearing in Trenton
on Tuesday, September 13.
The proposed amendment
would prohibit the- use or
commences. . . .
The division emphasized that
only shotgun shells containing
steel-shot pellets in any gauge,
not merely 12 gauge as in the
federal regulations, would be
permitted for hunting water-
' The State Division of .Fish,
cooperative study of all aspects
of the steel-shot program for
waterfowl hunting in New
The division said the U.S.
Lead poisoning is a significant
populations.
The federal steel-shot
program Includes migratory
bird hunting regulations with
non-toxic shot requirements as
follow: No person shall take
ducks, geese, or coots with a 12-
gauge shotgun loaded with any
material other than steel, such
as lead shot, in the portion of
The cooperation of all
. The division said special law
enforcement efforts will be
made in the state's lead-shot-
success of the steel-shot study.
It is of utmost importance that
the study area be free of all
deposits. ' .;
The division plans to coor-
