On the occasion of the marking of the Day of the Faculty, the Department for
Foreign Business Languages organized, on December 17, 2018, a round table
on the subject of 6 years of OYT - development of interdepartmental cooperation
on the achievement of competences for the labor market. At the meeting
participated Ms. Lena Perdijić from the European Commission Representation
in Croatia, Ms. Anica Bartolić, MBA from the EC, Vice-Dean Assist.
Prof. Božidar Jaković, PhD, Vice-Dean Assoc. Prof. Sanja Sever Mališ, PhD,
Prof. Dubravka Sinčić Ćorić, PhD from the Department of Marketing, Prof.
Ivan Strugar, PhD from the Department of Informatics, Assist. Prof. Velibor
Mačkić, PhD from the Department of Economic Theory, Assoc. Prof. Jasminka
Pecotić Kaufman from the Department of Law, Ms. Ingeborg Matečić, PhD
from the Department of Tourism, Ms. Marija Šimunović, Coordinator of
EDC/LDC at the Faculty of Economics & Business, and numerous students
and members of the Department for Foreign Languages. In the introductory
part of the convention, after the welcome speeches given by Ms. Krnajski
Hršak, Head of Department and the Vice-Dean Jaković, Ms. Ankica Knezović,
MA presented the conclusions of the research on labor market needs and
planned outcomes of learning. Ms. Višnja Kabalin Borenić, PhD has presented
and commented on the representative video clips from the OYT 2018
competition.
All the participants agreed that the competition in English language presentations
greatly contributes to the development of outcomes at the level of
study programs: communication skills and teamwork skills, knowledge synthesis,
counseling skills and reflection. They also presented their proposals
for the development of interdepartmental co-operation within the competition
and on the systematic upgrading of competences through courses at
senior years.
It was also agreed that students will be offered the opportunity to consult
the teachers of professional courses during the preparation of their presentations
in order to make presentations and content as high quality as possible.
It was pointed out, that there is a need to pay attention to communication
skills also on the courses of the senior years in which presentations are
held. Commendable initiatives have been created through the collaboration
of EDC and the Department for Foreign Business Languages, thanks to which
most of the students in the first year go through the EU database search and
quotation workshops. At the convention was suggested that these workshops
will be offered to students in the future in the form of teaching modules that
will develop academic skills, and for which the students will receive additional
ECTS credits.
Students, by their comments, contributed greatly to the quality of the discussion
by pointing out the most important topics. The representative of the
EY Company expressed strong support to the whole project and offered additional
training in the field of presentation within the EY Human Resources
Department training program for the winners of the next competition. The
EC Delegation confirmed the readiness to continue co-operation in this project,
which it considers to be extremely significant, indicating the forthcoming
EU parliamentary elections as a possible framework for presentation topics
in 2019.
