Crisis Nursery artwork on
display at Picasso’s
Artwork created by children staying at
The Saint Louis Crisis Nursery while working
with registered Art and Play Therapists
in the Healing Hearts Program is currently
on display at Picasso’s Coffee House, 1650
Beale Street #115 in St. Charles.
Reactions to the images have included:
“This artwork will touch your heart.” “It
gives me goosebumps.” “It makes me
happy and sad at the same time.”
The Healing Hearts Program utilizes art
and creativity as a way for the children of
the Nursery to express their feelings and
to help work through any trauma they may
have experienced or are currently experiencing.
“Between the two therapists, 154 kiddos
receive art or play therapy each month. We
estimate that over 22,000 children have
had a chance to work through tough times
with the Crisis Nursery’s Healing Hearts
Program,” CEO DiAnne Mueller said.
She explained that one of the key components
of the program is allowing the child
to have one-on-one time with an adult.
“To have an adult focus on them, listen to
them and help them feel better is so valuable
to their development,” Mueller said.
Ann Wier, Crisis Nursery Art Therapist,
set up the display.
“We are so grateful to Chris [Schulte,
owner] and Picasso’s Coffee House for
making this space available to the Crisis
Nursery,” Wier said. “It gives us a chance
to share the work of the children with the
community.”
The art will be on display through February.
The Saint Louis Crisis Nursery provides
a safe haven 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
for children, birth through age 12, whose
families are facing a crisis. Parents bring
children to the Nursery free of charge, on a
voluntary basis where they receive a medical
exam, therapeutic activities, nutritious
meals and take-home necessities. Parents
receive crisis counseling, in-home visits,
parent educational groups, and community
outreach. In 32 years, the Crisis Nursery
has served over 114,000 children.
