Maverick Marktpreis: 911 Speedster
by Peter Wen
Last year during its 70th year celebration, Porsche
unveiled a 911 Speedster concept car. It was based on the
outgoing 991-generation 911. With the overwhelming
positive response, Porsche later announced they will begin
production of the new Speedster in 2019. It will be the
fourth 911 Speedster, following the 1989 G-series, the
1994 964, and the 2011 997 Speedsters.
The original Porsche Speedster was produced 1954-
1958 based on the legendary 356. Porsche resurrected the
Speedster nameplate in 1989 to close out the G-series
911 (1974-1989). It generated much needed brand
excitement and sales boost for the new 964. They
repeated this successful formula through
today. All 911 Speedsters are end-of-gen specials
with limited production numbers. With their unique
styling (lower windshields and twin-hump tonneau
covers) and top performance parts, 911 Speedsters
are true collectibles from Day 1.
Excellence’s Porsche Buyer’s Guide offered
Fun fact: In 1955 James Dean traded
in his MG for a Super Speedster. He
put 1,000 miles on the car within 10
days of the purchase. He entered and
won his first road race at Palm
Springs on March 26 and 27, 1955.
