BK: Let’s go back to PCA then. You started in San
Diego, then you became a Maverick?
CS: With my moving around I have actually been a
member of five different regions, including being a
Maverick twice. My first was from 1986-89 then again
from 1998 till now, so I have been a Mav for 25 of my
40 years in the club.
BK: Whoa - you have seen some changes, and I know
you have always been involved. What are some of the
positions you have held?
CS: Of all things I think the first was Co-VP but I have
been Editor, Time Trial Chair, Rally Chair, DE Instructor,
Content Editor, and currently Region Secretary.
BK: I’m told you have been to your fair share of Parades?
CS: Guess you could say that. My first was in 1987 right
here in DFW and I have been to 22 others over the years.
BK: Let’s talk about cars; I hear you have had your
share of Porsches over the years?
CS: That I have. After the ‘74 914, I bought a ‘70 914
that had been converted to a six, with a 2.2 S engine,
which was Signal Orange. In 1985, I bought a Tangerine

Well as usual I always walk away surprised at what life
brings us in meeting people when we just stop or are
stopped to say hello. As Carey told me several times
during our chat: over the 40 years, it’s really about the
people. It doesn’t matter if you are an attendee or a
chairperson - it’s the people. Today we call that Driving
Friendships. Here’s to 40 years Carey!
1970 914-6, a real one this time. I kept this one for over
20 years, selling it in 2006. I also briefly owned a silver
1973 911S, but ended up selling it when my daughter
Geneva was born.
BK: Ok, so tell me one thing that most will never know
about you?
CS: Well I kind of mentioned earlier that I play the
trumpet. I played in both my high school and college
marching bands. Then after college when I was in
Austin, I was a member of the Austin Community Band;
we would play two to three concerts a year. Guess you
could say music has always been kind of a hobby to me.
