Jahra Road Development Project
Kuwait
The Jahra Road project is part of the Kuwait Ministry of Public Works strategic plan
to develop the motorway system in Kuwait to ease congestion, boost traffic capacity,
and improve road safety. Jahra Road is located in the western region of Kuwait
and is one of Kuwait's largest infrastructure projects. The project involves the development
of a road system on four levels, including an eight-lane elevated highway
to Kuwait City and local traffic roads running on ground level along the side.
Kemet Corporation is using a range of
Autodesk products—including AutoCAD ®
Map 3D, AutoCAD ® Civil 3D ® , Autodesk ®
3ds Max ® Design, Autodesk ® Navisworks ®
Manage, and Autodesk ® Revit ® Structure—
to help the project team better visualize
and simulate the road’s real-world appearance,
and to support construction simulation
and clash detection. To assist in this
effort, Kemet created a 3D dynamic
road model for approximately two
kilometers of the project, including
roundabouts, ramps, networks, and
underground troughs and piles.
Black & Veatch
Lower Baker Unit 4 Powerhouse Project
Concrete, Washington
Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is building an additional powerhouse at the Lower Baker
Dam, located on the Baker River near Concrete, Washington. Black & Veatch
provided engineering services for the project, which consists of a new 30 MW
powerhouse and a 12-foot internal diameter, 1,000-foot-long pressure power
tunnel that will connect the new facility to the existing Lower Baker Dam and
reservoir. Black & Veatch will also provide startup and commissioning services on
the project, which PSE expects to complete in the spring of 2013.
Intelligent 3D models created using AutoCAD ®
Civil 3D ® , Autodesk ® Navisworks ® Manage,
AutoCAD ® MEP, and AutoCAD ® Architecture
software helped Black & Veatch designers from
multiple disciplines and organizations easily
coordinate space requirements for equipment,
piping, cable tray, and other needs within a
tight footprint. During the review process,
model-based design helped the designers
verify that components were properly
placed, easily accessible, and did not
interfere with their surroundings. In
addition, the models allowed maintenance
personnel to review and comment
on new arrangements and layouts during
the design process for early project input,
and have become an important review
and planning tool for the contractor
during construction.
