AURIGNY
BEHIND THE SCENES
STEFF MOODY
MAINTENANCE ACCOUNTANT
I joined Aurigny in September 2018 having
spent around 28 years working in the
finance industry.
What is your job and what
have you found is the
biggest challenge?
I am Maintenance Accountant
for both Anglo Normandy and
Aurigny. I assist in keeping the
stock records up to date, prepare
monthly management accounts,
quarterly and annual accounts
for Anglo and assist in the annual
account preparation for Aurigny.
I work closely with the purchase
ledger clerks and all other
departments in an effort to keep
everything running smoothly.
So, accounting can be interesting?
Going forwards I’ll be getting
more involved with the technical
side of the planes’ maintenance
schedules and learning various
roles within the company
including check-in and dispatch.
Moving from finance into the
commercial sector has been a
huge adjustment but I do feel that
my life now has a much happier
balance. There are long hours,
there are problems to be solved
when planes go tech or the
weather grounds flights but the
amazing team at Aurigny manage
to get the job done. An example
of this amazing teamwork can be
seen when Gatwick was closed
due to the drone situation. Our
ground ops team pulled out all
the stops and got the planes
diverted to Southampton. It’s not
just staff here in Guernsey that
help the company run smoothly,
it’s our staff and handling
agents in all airports we fly to.
When I leave the office I already
look forward to the next day
and what it will bring.
What is the most interesting
thing about working for
an airline industry?
Pretty much everything. I have
learnt so much about the industry
already (although I’m not able
to tell the planes just by engine
noise yet) and each day there
is something else... I also love
the fact that I can look into the
hangar and see the planes being
worked on. There is something
incredibly special about being able
to get so close to these aircraft.
What is the worst job you
have had?
Now that’s tricky... my first bar
job was horrendous! My first
shift I had to go home because
the smell of beer made me
sick. I got over it luckily...
What job did you want to do
when you were at school?
Throughout most of my schooling
I wanted to be a nanny or at the
very least work in a nursery. I
actually did work experience in a
nursery called “Town Mouse” which
my son Daniel, now 22 years old,
went to before starting school.
What is the best thing
about your job?
Again, I think it has to be
everything. Even the not so
great parts of my job I love. I
get job satisfaction day in and
day out. I feel very privileged
being able to use my airside
pass to visit colleagues based
at the main airport building.
What was the last film you saw?
Pitch Perfect - in my defence I was
staying at my parents recuperating
after having had elbow surgery!!
Something that may
surprise people?
My midlife crisis was deciding to
get a motorbike. I started off on a
Bandit 600cc but soon changed
to my current love, my XTX 660...
