SEA ADVENTURES
WILD SEA SWIMMING
For some, wild sea swimming
is on their bucket list of things to
do. The Victorian Bathing Pools at
La Valette, in St Peter Port, offer a
great location to try this out. With
four separate pools: the Gents,
the Horseshoe, the Ladies' and the
children’s pools, swim with others
or enjoy a pool to yourself. Just be
sure to arrive when the tide is out!
For those preferring a more
natural environment, visit the
Venus Pool in Sark – nature’s
creation. The sea acts as a natural
detergent, clearing and refilling
the pool as the tide comes
in, readying itself to welcome
new visitors at low tide.
For more information on open
water swimming, head to the
sports feature on page 124.
COASTEERING
For the more adventurous,
coasteering is a popular extreme
water sport involving rock
scrambling and jumping in and
around the Bailiwick’s caves
and gullies. Outdoor Guernsey,
Go Guernsey Land and Sea
and Adventure Sark offer tours,
with beginners welcome. All
protective clothing is provided.
PUFFIN WATCHING TOURS
Sark, Herm and Alderney
welcome puffins each year,
with the main puffin season
falling between April and July.
Kayaking tours from Outdoor
Guernsey, Go Guernsey
Land and Sea and Alderney
Wildlife Trust offer a wonderful
opportunity to get up close and
personal to these little fellas!
Puffin tours are also available
via RIB boat with Island RIB
Voyages. jet ski with JP’s Jetski
Seafaris and cabin cruiser boat.
GET OUT ON THE WAVES
Stand-up paddle boarding
(SUP) is the UK's fastest growing
water sport and is becoming
increasingly popular in Guernsey.
Guernsey SUP offers lessons as
well as board rental. Once you’ve
mastered it, you won’t look back!
For those preferring more
extreme waves, Vazon Bay on the
west coast of Guernsey is a surfer's
paradise. Classes are available
from Guernsey Surf School.
