Briggs Hall Roof and
Electrical Renovations
Briggs Hall, home to dozens of research groups and labs, opened in 1971 – almost 50 years
ago – to accommodate major increases of students and faculty studying and researching the
biological sciences. Today the roof and electrical systems need major renovations to protect
critical research and academic equipment.
This project removes all the electrical equipment currently on the roof, relocates updated systems
to a fenced yard near the building’s loading dock, replaces the roofing systems and provides a
new emergency generator system to power the entire building during an outage.

During inclement weather, the labs in Briggs Hall are subject to costly, difficult-to-track leaks when
water seeps in through cracks that develop at the bases of the electrical equipment.
