Hot Water Conversion
To decrease our campus’s reliance on natural gas and move our university closer to becoming
carbon neutral by 2025, UC Davis is converting our building heating system from utilizing steam
heat created by heating water with natural gas to utilizing hot water heated with electricity – a
renewable resource. The large-scale project, starting with the buildings and infrastructure located
in the campus Quad District, will replace our current heat exchangers with newer models and
retrofit the underground piping infrastructure to operate the new system.
