Javea
Going for green
OVER 100 hostelries in
Javea have signed up to
the new “Green Flags
Movement”, aimed at encouraging
recycling of
glass.
The campaign has been
launched by Ecovidrio, the
non-profit that deals with
waste glass in the area, who
by Simon Russell
have estimated that over
half of such material generated
in the summer months
comes from bars, hotels and
restaurants. Only about a
third of this is recycled, a
number they aim to boost
significantly. They have delivered
recycling bins to the
establishments taking part
while in the early stages the
Casa Cande restaurant has
been awarded as the “best
recycler”. Last year Javea’s
residents produced an average
of 62 kilogrammes of
glass per person, according
to Ecovidrio.
Grant for needy families
ALICANTE Provincial
Council has given a grant
of just under €19,000 to
Javea Council to distribute
among families and
individuals in need within
Mooring buoys request
THE Javea Partido Popular
have joined with their
counterparts in Denia to
request the installation of
permanent mooring berths
off Cabo Sant Antoni.
Despite the risks of fines
boats have continued to moor
the municipality.
Social Services Councillor
Rita Berruti explained it
would be used for two specific
programmes, financial assistance
for needy families (about
by Simon Russell
their by dropping anchor
This is illegal due to the
damage caused to the seabed
which has rare plantlife.
However carefully installed
mooring buoys would
€10,000) and the home help
service (about €10,000). Javea
already finances a large part of
these, but the grant will allow
the level of care and help to be
improved, said Ms Berruti.
cause no damage and could
then be used by small vessels,
preventing further
damage, said a PP spokesperson.
lans for the proposal have
been submitted to the Ministry
of the Environment.
Some of the blocked off parking area
Leaky car-parks
to be repaired
IN a town where parking
is already at a premium,
especially in the summer,
Javea drivers could
have done without the
30 bays that have been
blocked off due to leaks.
These are in the underground
car parks at Plaza
by Simon Russell
de la Constitiucion and
Portal del Clot which have
been closed off for a while
due to intermittent flooding.
The situation has repeatedly
been denounced
and the city council have
now announced that the issue
is to be addressed.
Works Councillor Kika
Mata has said that a series
of mechanisms are being
fitted to divert the water
to intact pipes and at this
moment “it seems to work”
said a hopeful Ms Mata.
