OCTOBER Women’s Club: <strong>Fall</strong> Social Thursday, Oct. 10 5 to 7 p.m. | Desert Camp Ages 21+ | Free RSVP opens Sept. 9 Spend an evening of conversation and laughs with the DC Ranch Women’s Club. The <strong>Fall</strong> Social is the perfect prelude to fall festivities and a great opportunity to catch up with neighbors and friends over light refreshments and drinks on the north patio at Desert Camp Community Center. Spotlight Speaker Series: Protecting Leaders of the Free World Wednesday, Oct. 16 6 to 7:30 p.m. | The Homestead Ages 21+ | Free RSVP opens Sept. 19 Canasta for Beginners Wednesday: Oct. 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6 10 a.m. to Noon | Desert Camp Ages 21 + | $44 Registration opens Sept. 16 Canasta is a versatile and fun card game, but it can be intimidating to learn. Join this 4-week instructor led series to learn the basics of the game in a small group setting. Space is limited. Arizona native Cristina Beloud will share the story of her 25-year Secret Service career – including being on scene following the assassination attempt on Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, how she became supervisor of the protective division and lessons learned about overcoming the odds in a male-dominated line of work. She will also speak about the journey of her life and the new chapter in her career with Amazon. Doors open at 6 p.m., program begins at 6:30 p.m. Complimentary appetizers, wine and beer provided. Food Truck Night: Taste of Hawaii Thursday, Oct. 17 5 to 7:30 p.m. | Desert Camp Say aloha to some memorable eats and pull up a seat with neighbors! Flyin’ Hawaiian will serve authentic items inspired by the islands including coconut shrimp, pork belly and teriyaki chicken with sides such as mac salad, rice and kimchi. For dessert, cool down at the Happy Honu truck with some fluffy shaved ice in a variety of delicious flavors. DC Ranch Hiking Group Saturday, Oct. 19 9 a.m. to Noon | The Homestead Ages 13+ | Free RSVP opens Sept. 16 Join a guided hike that will showcase recent improvements to the paths and trails system. This easy to moderate hike will take place in Desert Parks. Hikers are welcome to go at their own pace. Dogs are also welcome as long as they are kept on a leash and picked up after. Parent Education Series Calling all parents, grandparents and caregivers! DC Ranch Community Council and notMykid have partnered to offer residents a series of programs to gain valuable information that empowers families to prevent negative youth behavior. Substance Abuse: Understanding the Influence Wednesday, Oct. 23 6 to 7 p.m. | Desert Camp Ages 21+ | Free RSVP open now Prickly Pumpkin Patch Thursday, Oct. 24 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. | Desert Camp Ages 0-8 | $7 Registration opens Sept. 23 Head to Desert Camp for a fun afternoon of pumpkin picking, creative crafting and fall fun. Children will get to pick a pumpkin of their very own to take home, carve and decorate! The Prickly Pumpkin Patch will make the perfect backdrop for festive family photos. Cookies and apple cider will be provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Gain critical information on how to protect your children from the dangers of drugs and discuss this topic with family members. Arizona Oddities Friday, Oct. 25 6 to 7:30 p.m. | Desert Camp Ages 21+ | Free RSVP opens Sept. 23 Join “Hipstorian” Marshall Shore as he uses old film footage, photographs, sound recordings and artifacts to bring Arizona history to life during this entertaining and educational presentation. Spooky Carnival: Boom! Wham! Pow! Saturday, Oct. 26 5 to 8 p.m. | Desert Camp Ages 0-3 free | 4-12 $9 | 13+ $17 Registration opens Sept. 23 Bam! Pow! Don’t miss all the Halloween action at this classic comic bookthemed Signature event. Spidey senses will be tingling with a superhero showdown, game booths, a DJ dance party, create a comic activity, the Hulk smash station and much more. Ticket price includes a buffet dinner with gluten free and vegan options available. Men’s Club: Monday Night Football Monday, Oct. 28 5 to 8 p.m. All American Modern Sports Grill Ages 21+ | RSVP opens Sept. 30 Are you ready for some football? Join the DC Ranch Men’s Club for Monday Night Football. Meet up with neighbors as you watch the Miami Dolphins take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Food and drink to be purchased on your own.
