through ongoing education on the latest products, and techniques and even business skills, both<br />

Today grey is the new black, and not only when speaking only about couture! Now that hair coloring<br />

products offer an unlimited palette, endless possibilities thanks to new techniques, and are safer and easier<br />

to use than ever before, the tables have been turned! Gen Z and Millennials are experimenting more with<br />

color while their parents are more often than not embracing their gray hair, often opting for classic carefree<br />

cuts and styling. Joanne Rempel, Color Development Manager at Eufora International focuses on the big<br />

issue: “The architecture of hair design must be adapted to suit face shape and body structure. Lifestyle will<br />

dictate how much time you want to budget. Are you an on-the-go gal with a regimen of wash, product and<br />

run? Or do you set aside a little time with a blow-dryer and hot tools to create your look?”<br />

Aging may bring some new challenges when it comes to hair, but nothing that can't be resolved in some way. Karen Gordon,<br />

President, Cosmetologists Chicago, comments, “One in four women experience thinning hair by the time they are in their<br />

forties due to stress, diet, hormones, the environment and hereditary factors, so I designed a protocol to create the best<br />

environment for growing thicker, healthier hair. Extensions and hairpieces can also help enhance length and volume. Today,<br />

when you purchase a hairpiece made with good quality hair and it is fitted properly, they can be completely undetectable!”<br />

In addition to a little extra TLC, consult with your hairdresser about what cut&color is best for you. Rempel explains: “My<br />

rule with my guest is... if you are growing out your natural color, you have to 'rock' it out with a slammin’ haircut. If you wish<br />

to color your hair, it is all about tone. As our skin changes, so does the depth and tone of our skin. We must accommodate<br />

these changes when selecting our hair color.”<br />

The absolute winner of the first Nordic Hair Awards was Finnish hairdresser Harri Åkerberg from A.K.A.<br />

Luova who conquered both Nordic Avant-garde Hairdresser of the Year and Nordic Hairdresser of the Year!<br />

Nordic Stars<br />

The very first Nordic Hair Awards and Expo held a fabulous<br />

event in Copenhagen (Denmark) where more than 2,000<br />

hair pros networked, connected and inspired each other.


Nordic Hair Awards' first edition presented a fabulous live competition where 47 finalists from all the Nordic countries took<br />

part in nine different categories. Winners were announced at a crowded award ceremony at Lokomotivværkstedet in<br />

Copenhagen. The biggest winner was Finland who received a total four awards, including the Nordic Hairdresser of the<br />

Year title and Best Avant-Garde award for Harri Åkerberg; Women's Hairdresser of the Year, Aki-Matti Kallio; and Editorial<br />

Stylist of the Year, Linda Lehto. Swedish Johan Kristensen and Sofie Heidenberg won, respectively, Men’s Hairdresser of the<br />

Year and Colour Technician of the Year. Martina Rawet (Norway) was crowned Young Talent of the Year; Park Styling / Hair<br />

Construction Academy (Denmark) won Best Salon Design and Katrin Sif Jónsdóttir is the Icelandic Hairdresser of the Year.<br />

Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna <strong>2019</strong> enjoyed a record turnout this year, with more than<br />

265,000 industry attendees, 3,033 companies from 70 countries and a 10% increase in the<br />

the two main talking points of the event - proving to be the subjects of over 30 talks planned<br />

by the Service Centre included in initiatives such as NO. CO. – No Compromise of<br />

year's event: “Cosmoprof now reaches all the world with events on every continent," he<br />
