Los salvadoreños
conquistando territorio
Presidente y Fundador
de El Corredor Salvadoreño.
Salvadorans
conquering territory
The Salvadoran Corridor in Los Angeles was
recognized in 2012 by government of this city, it is the
second most Latino community The county’s largest,
Salvadoran, with the recognition of its contributions
with a 14-block area called “Salvadoran Community
Corridor” that covers Vermont Avenue from 11th Street to
Adams Boulevard.
Restaurants, cultural cafés, squares and neighborhoods
inhabited by our compatriots who fight every day to be
entrepreneurs and give jobs to our people are located in that
sector. The Salvadoran Corridor of Los Angeles wants to grow
like its people, strengthen ties of identity and get closer with the
“Thumb of America”, where your roots are.
Spaces have been opened so that small, medium and large
companies with Salvadoran capital can promote their products
and have greater scope for sales, both in the United States and
in El Salvador.
With this opening it is also sought to promote on its platform
web and social networks the advances and achievements of the
community. Starting with the Salvadoran market in Los Angeles
with an innovative magazine where the news will be presented
in Spanish and English, as the current market demands that
the community be bilingual.
Soon they will expand it to other markets so that the magazine
reaches the hands of compatriots in other cities where there
are ties such as New York, Washington, Virginia, Atlanta,
Houston and others.
We Salvadorans are able to expand, to grow together,
helping each other.
Oscar Levi Dominguez,
from the Salvadoran Corridor.

Federico Guerrero President of the National Registry of Natural Persons attended the conference in which
he affi rmed that every Salvadoran has the support of the institution when managing identification documents,
in Los Angeles they also have their own office, right there inside the Salvadoran corridor.
The offi cial said that he would be present during the Festival of Hispanity, in addition he encouraged all
Salvadorans abroad to take out their DUI since it is the official identification and is the one required for any legal
procedure.
RNPN
On July 2, 1940, Legislative Decree No. 18 gave life to the Neighborhood Identification Law, whereby all Salvadorans
over 18 years of age, resident in the Republic of El Salvador had to obtain an identification document
called Cédula de Neighborhood. This law was in force until September 10, 1959.
On December 8, 1959, the Personal Identity Card Law entered into force. This began to be issued on the 1st. July
1960. This law decreed that all Salvadorans over 18 years of age should be provided with a Personal Identity Card
(CIP), this being the necessary and sufficient document to establish the identity of the person, in all public and private
events in which it was presented .
The Personal Identity Card was obtained at the City Hall of the citizen’s address. Its form was a small notebook
that contained data related to the person.
This Identity document lacked verification and data control mechanisms provided by the
person requesting it. It also lacked physical security in the document, which resulted
in the existence of an unreliable and unsecured document for the identity of
citizens.
From the 1992 Peace Agreements in El Salvador, a new form of peaceful and
social coexistence is generated based on the validity of the democratic system
and respect for the rule of law.
For this reason, the Salvadoran State had the obligation to make natural
persons identified and registered reliably. Therefore, it was necessary to
create an institution of high social impact that through the provision of its
services strengthen electoral processes and also guarantee legal certainty.
Therefore, the Salvadoran State agreed through Legislative Decree No. 488
of October 27, 1995, published in the Official Gazette No. 227, volume 329
dated December 7, 1995, the creation of the National Registry of Natural
Persons and the creation of the new Unique Identity Document (DUI), which
fully replaced the Personal Identity Card. In addition, by legal provision, it
replaced the electoral card, issued by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal for the
exercise of suffrage. One of the objectives that this reform intended was the
replacement of the Identity Card, with the Unique Identity Document, allowing
the construction of more reliable electoral rolls.
Likewise, the creation of the RNPN sought to modernize the registration of
the facts and legal acts of natural persons, using information technologies
and facilitating the preservation and issuance of documentation carried in
their Systems.
The National Registry of Natural Persons is a public law entity, with autonomy
in technical and administrative matters; For budgetary purposes it
is attached to the Supreme Electoral Tribunal. Its competence covers the
entire national territory in matters of Family Status Registration and Citizen
Identification.

Trabajando por los hermanos en el exterior
Iris Gálvez
Los salvadoreños en el exterior
cuentan con un aliado
de suma importancia, el Vice
Canciller Mauricio Cabrera,
afi rma que con este nuevo
gobierno durante su gestión no descansarán
en el trabajo conjunto para mejorar
las condiciones de vida de los hermanos
lejanos.
Working for the brothers abroad
Salvadorans abroad have a very
important ally, Vice Chancellor
Mauricio Cabrera, says that
with this new government during
their administration they will
not rest in joint work to improve the living
conditions of distant brothers.
What is your opinion about the initiatives
promoted by Salvadoran movements
abroad, in this case by the Salvadoran
Corridor of Los Angeles?
The Government of President Nayib
Bukele recognizes the role played
by the organized Salvadoran
community, both in the country
where they reside and in El
Salvador.
Throughout history, great
achievements have been
driven by the leadership and
advocacy of the migrant Salvadoran
community such as
TPS, Salvadoran Day, Voting
from Abroad, among others.
The Salvadoran community
has been making
its way in its
destination countries and the Salvadoran
Corridor is a sample of that. In this initiative
we see an opportunity to position the Salvadoran
business community in the United
States. The Corridor is a sign that we are a
people who work and undertake, a people
that does not recognize obstacles in building
their future.
The state of California represents one of
the most important economies in the world
and having a space here dedicated to El
Salvador is an important milestone. This
would not be possible without the recognition
of local authorities and the support of
the Salvadoran community itself.
Will they follow up and support the activities
organized by the Salvadoran
communities?
As Vice Ministry for Salvadorans Abroad
we promote a comprehensive approach to
human mobility. In this sense, as part of our
mandate we promote the protection of the
human rights of the nationals, the attention
consular, as well as the connection with
Salvadoran people abroad. In line with the
Cuscatlan Plan, we are strengthening the
accompaniment and cooperation strategies
with Salvadoran communities abroad and
their initiatives. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs
reaffi rms its commitment to improving
the capacity and quality of care through the
consular network, they have open doors for
compatriots, so I invite you all to come closer
to identify the
joint work opportunities. In a complementary
way, in El Salvador, we have a delegated
liaison team specifi cally to receive and
accompany organizations in their projects.
In the coming months we will be carrying
out a fi rst meeting exercise of the government
authorities with Salvadoran leadership
in Los Angeles. We hope everyone
can join and build the agenda together with
the communities for the next 5 years.
What is the message you want to convey
in this memorable event to the
Salvadorans who are within this corridor,
the first Latin American and that
has already been recognized for more
than 12 years ?.
As our President Nayib Bukele has said,
the diaspora is a vital part of El Salvador
and its future. You are strategic allies in
the transformation process that drives our
government and we recognize that you are
doing your part. Likewise, we highlight your
Iris Gálvez
enthusiasm, your potential and your creativity, but also your
sacrifi ces. We will do everything in our power to ensure that
our
community abroad be an active part in political, economic
and social decisions. As a government, we have had a little
more than 100 days and we are on the right track. The population
is supporting the management.
In this regard, I call for us to join and focus on the El Salvador
we want. We are here to work with you and multiply the
impact of the actions we are taking.
What projects are you hoping to implement during this
management that in one way or another provide support
to Salvadorans, whether legally established as
well as those found illegally?
The migrant Salvadoran population, regardless of their immigration
status is a priority for our government. We will
work to strengthen relations with the countries of destination
of our diaspora, trying to ensure that they are recognized
for their worth and for all the contributions they make
both in those destinations and in El Salvador.
Some of the priority projects related to this fi ve-year period
are the following:
-Mechanism of citizen participation in which the community
can directly propose solutions to the challenges
they face, verify progress and work together.
-Improvement and strengthening of the service in the consular
network.
-Opening a co-development offi ce, through which the communities
are accompanied in the projects they carry out in
El Salvador.
-To join together with the National Registry of Natural Persons
(RNPN) the issuance of DUIs to nationals who have
not had access.
-Adapting the services of the institutions of the Salvadoran
State to the needs of Salvadorans abroad.
-Promotion of identity and culture, through the Cultural Corners
El Salvador.
- Strengthening of the unit that offers advice for the entry of
donations from compatriots abroad.
-Linking with Salvadoran talent abroad.
- Accompaniment and advice for voluntary return.
-Linking with Salvadoran investors abroad.
- Volunteer program for young people of the diaspora.
- Strengthening work with Salvadoran organizations abroad.
-Website to publicize the work of Salvadoran communities
outside the country.
-Recognition to the work of Salvadorans and their organizations.
And of course, coordination with national entities to facilitate
the process of voting from abroad.

Preparada
a nivel mundial. Seguramente es debido a su
dulzura, cuerpo y acidez.
made from corn or rice dough that can be
fi lled with different foods (cheese, beans,
pork rinds, etc.). Depending on the taste
of each person or “scrambled” can be prepared,
which is achieved by mixing several
fi llings. Within our article what to see
in Suchitoto you can see the improvised
pupusas workshop that we carry out in the
Crazy corn
Another typical food of El Salvador is the
crazy corn. You can not miss any local
celebration. He earned his name thanks
to the mixture of ingredients: ears of
sweet corn, grated cheese, sweet tomato
sauce, mayonnaise, mustard and black
sauce.
Yucca with pork rinds
It is one of the simplest dishes of Salvadoran
cuisine. This dish includes a sauce
that is known as “chirmol.” Prepared with
tomato, onion, spicy green chili, salt,
pepper and vinegar, which should be
cut into pieces and then mixed. In the
case of cassava, you must fi rst cook
and then fry. Chicharrones can be purchased
ready and simply added to the
preparation.
Alot Atoll
One of the typical desserts of El Salvador
that attracts the most attention
is the well-known corn atoll. To do this
you need liquid milk, cinnamon (to
taste), sugar, 4 cans of corn (can be
in grains or cream) or 12 shelled corn.
The corn must be well liquefi ed with
a little milk and in a pot bring the rest
of the milk to a boil, adding the cinnamon,
the corn mixed with the milk and
the sugar. It cooks about 20 minutes,
beating constantly. Before serving it, it
is advisable to strain the mixture, cool
it and taste this delight.
Salvadoran coffee
Salvadoran coffee has a great reputation
worldwide. It is surely due to its sweetness,
body and acidity. For coffee lovers,
coffee farms or crops are spread throughout
the country. Most are in the northeastern
part and range from 500 to 1,500 meters
above sea level. Many of them in the
vicinity of the volcanoes giving a different
flavor to the product. The best known
variety in the country is the Bourbon, although
my favorite was the Pacamara,
which is only 3% of the country’s production
since it is made at an intermediate
length being a hybrid between the Pacas
variety and the Red Maragogripe. Well ...
leaving aside the technicalities, there is
no doubt that it is coffee that makes this
small country famous. We had the opportunity
to do a Tour of the Hacienda Benefi
cio el Carmen and here we leave you
the video that shows the importance of
coffee in El Salvador.
