Working for the brothers abroad
Salvadorans abroad have a very
important ally, Vice Chancellor
Mauricio Cabrera, says that
with this new government during
their administration they will
not rest in joint work to improve the living
conditions of distant brothers.
What is your opinion about the initiatives
promoted by Salvadoran movements
abroad, in this case by the Salvadoran
Corridor of Los Angeles?
The Government of President Nayib
Bukele recognizes the role played
by the organized Salvadoran
community, both in the country
where they reside and in El
Salvador.
Throughout history, great
achievements have been
driven by the leadership and
advocacy of the migrant Salvadoran
community such as
TPS, Salvadoran Day, Voting
from Abroad, among others.
The Salvadoran community
has been making
its way in its
destination countries and the Salvadoran
Corridor is a sample of that. In this initiative
we see an opportunity to position the Salvadoran
business community in the United
States. The Corridor is a sign that we are a
people who work and undertake, a people
that does not recognize obstacles in building
their future.
The state of California represents one of
the most important economies in the world
and having a space here dedicated to El
Salvador is an important milestone. This
would not be possible without the recognition
of local authorities and the support of
the Salvadoran community itself.
Will they follow up and support the activities
organized by the Salvadoran
communities?
As Vice Ministry for Salvadorans Abroad
we promote a comprehensive approach to
human mobility. In this sense, as part of our
mandate we promote the protection of the
human rights of the nationals, the attention
consular, as well as the connection with
Salvadoran people abroad. In line with the
Cuscatlan Plan, we are strengthening the
accompaniment and cooperation strategies
with Salvadoran communities abroad and
their initiatives. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs
reaffi rms its commitment to improving
the capacity and quality of care through the
consular network, they have open doors for
compatriots, so I invite you all to come closer
to identify the
joint work opportunities. In a complementary
way, in El Salvador, we have a delegated
liaison team specifi cally to receive and
accompany organizations in their projects.
In the coming months we will be carrying
out a fi rst meeting exercise of the government
authorities with Salvadoran leadership
in Los Angeles. We hope everyone
can join and build the agenda together with
the communities for the next 5 years.
What is the message you want to convey
in this memorable event to the
Salvadorans who are within this corridor,
the first Latin American and that
has already been recognized for more
than 12 years ?.
As our President Nayib Bukele has said,
the diaspora is a vital part of El Salvador
and its future. You are strategic allies in
the transformation process that drives our
government and we recognize that you are
doing your part. Likewise, we highlight your
Iris Gálvez
enthusiasm, your potential and your creativity, but also your
sacrifi ces. We will do everything in our power to ensure that
our
community abroad be an active part in political, economic
and social decisions. As a government, we have had a little
more than 100 days and we are on the right track. The population
is supporting the management.
In this regard, I call for us to join and focus on the El Salvador
we want. We are here to work with you and multiply the
impact of the actions we are taking.
What projects are you hoping to implement during this
management that in one way or another provide support
to Salvadorans, whether legally established as
well as those found illegally?
The migrant Salvadoran population, regardless of their immigration
status is a priority for our government. We will
work to strengthen relations with the countries of destination
of our diaspora, trying to ensure that they are recognized
for their worth and for all the contributions they make
both in those destinations and in El Salvador.
Some of the priority projects related to this fi ve-year period
are the following:
-Mechanism of citizen participation in which the community
can directly propose solutions to the challenges
they face, verify progress and work together.
-Improvement and strengthening of the service in the consular
network.
-Opening a co-development offi ce, through which the communities
are accompanied in the projects they carry out in
El Salvador.
-To join together with the National Registry of Natural Persons
(RNPN) the issuance of DUIs to nationals who have
not had access.
-Adapting the services of the institutions of the Salvadoran
State to the needs of Salvadorans abroad.
-Promotion of identity and culture, through the Cultural Corners
El Salvador.
- Strengthening of the unit that offers advice for the entry of
donations from compatriots abroad.
-Linking with Salvadoran talent abroad.
- Accompaniment and advice for voluntary return.
-Linking with Salvadoran investors abroad.
- Volunteer program for young people of the diaspora.
- Strengthening work with Salvadoran organizations abroad.
-Website to publicize the work of Salvadoran communities
outside the country.
-Recognition to the work of Salvadorans and their organizations.
And of course, coordination with national entities to facilitate
the process of voting from abroad.
