UPDATE FROM UCKFIELD BOWLS CLUB
Uckfield Bowls Club held its popular Fred King Invitation Open Triples tournament last
month. The weather stayed fine for the competition, which features 16 clubs across Sussex
and was won by Peter Menniss, Valerie Menniss and Ian Scutt from Wealden Bowls Club; the
runners-up being Debbie Juden, Tony Mercer and Ian Prior from Woodingdean.
Meanwhile, Uckfield has enjoyed a good start
in both the Mid Sussex League (MSL) and the
John Spriggs League. They beat Burgess Hill
away by 8 points to 2 in the first MSL fixture,
followed by an emphatic 10-0 home win
against Felbridge. Results were echoed in the
John Spriggs League, with an 8-2 victory at
home against Burgess Hill, and a 10-0 away
win at Felbridge.
Uckfield's results in the Horam League have
however been disappointing, with losses
against Herstmonceux, Hellingly, Wadhurst
and Rotherfield, with one victory against
Groombridge and a draw against Ringmer.
Uckfield's season has been tinged with
sadness, as their President, Mike Wilson,
passed away on 9 June after a long illness. A
minute's silence was held before the home
match against Felbridge as a mark of respect.
