Highlights 2018-<strong>2019</strong>:<br />
District 1 continues to promote the profession of nursing in rural Western <strong>Maryland</strong>. Over the<br />
previous year, we provided opportunities for nurses to obtain CEU’s, learn evidence-based practice,<br />
and be informed of organizational changes within the ANA/MNA. One of our officers, Jaime Striplin,<br />
who is a faculty member at Allegany College of <strong>Maryland</strong> has been instrumental in working with the<br />
student nurses.<br />
• The annual MNA District 1 dinner was held on Thursday, March 28, <strong>2019</strong> at Western <strong>Maryland</strong><br />
Health System in Cumberland, MD. The annual meeting was previously scheduled for November<br />
2018; however, due to weather conditions the meeting was postponed. Thirty (30) nurses and<br />
nursing students from our local community college.<br />
o The title of the program was "Healthy Nurse/Healthy Nation: Spring Forward without Falling<br />
Back?" The guest speakers were Jen Thomas (STEP Program Coordinator, AHEC West;<br />
ACE Certified Personal Trainer & Health Coach, Center for Mind-Body Medicine Professional<br />
Training) and Carey Moffatt, M.S. (Health Educator, Western <strong>Maryland</strong> Health System;<br />
Certified Health & Wellness Coach, ACE Certified Personal Trainer)<br />
o A social hour was held prior to the presentation and business meeting. Local vendors<br />
representing various direct sales companies, physical therapy companies, and schools of<br />
nursing displayed their products or services and donated door prizes.<br />
