Cllr David Wilson
I was accompanied by an executive from SPT for my
visit to Outlook. My subject was “Highs and Lows of a
Councillor” and my colleague spoke about MyBus and
bus services in the village. The last no1 from Johnstone
Station is 4.23pm and we were asked if this could leave
an hour later? Unfortunately there was no scope to add a later
service. Most enjoyable couple of hours.
The clock on the Old Kirk Tower has been misbehaving but the
council is in the process of fixing it. The clock and the flag pole
are considered to be of public significance and although owned
by the Parish are maintained by the council. The main village
Remembrance Service on 10th November will be at 10.45am in
the Old Kirk followed by a short service at the War Memorial at
12.30pm.
Elphinstone Court residents approached me with several
complaints. I have written to the Renfrewshire Valuation Board on
their behalf because their community charge is more than much
older and larger houses. Parking on the dropped kerbs nearby also
came up and this should not happen. We do have a shortage of
parking places and the council has made three suggestions. I am
very much against a multi storey car park behind the outstanding
Cargill community centre which is now in a conservation area. The
Cargill has proved to be a resounding success with the community
centre, library, surgery and piazza (beautifully decorated by
Colourful Kilmacolm).
Bollards have been installed at the junction of Gryffe and Houston
roads to protect a manhole cover, various white lining will be done
including the junction of Pacemuir and Broomknowe, Cloak Road
has been damaged by the extra traffic due to Scottish Water,
trees need cut back at the Barrs Brae Car Park. The second weed
killing treatment has been completed on the Pacemuir Estate. Due
to subsidence above the drains the pitches at Birkmyre will now
not be ready for use until the summer. The contractor will fix. The
Scottish Water sewage works have been a trial in the village for
residents, transport and visitors. They were polite enough but took
too long.
Council officers are in the process of producing plans to alleviate
flooding around the School House in Quarriers. The various main
road drainage problems have been improved by CCTV and pipe
jetting.
The green belt in the Village is under attack by developers. In my
13 years as chair of planning we have never known such a number
of major planning applications. Officers will robustly defend our
Local Development Plan, but this Plan has been challenged by
Mactaggart and Mickel and others on the basis of housing land
release.
The Port Glasgow Community Fire Station was 50 years old on
the 1st October. This Station and its appliances are vital to both
our villages. They laid on an impressive demonstration and a fine
purvey. Long may they thrive.
The Bonfire and Fireworks will take place at Knapps, courtesy
of Lord Mclay on Saturday 2nd November. Doors open 4.30pm,
bonfire lit sharp 6pm. Great traditional village event adults £5
youngsters £2. Non profit making. Enquiries to myself.
