ADHD Awareness Week
Gryffe pupils teach the staff about ADHD. After school, pupils -
Ben, Jack and Nathan - gave a presentation to over 20 staff on how
ADHD affects them, along with Duncan who is Ben’s S6 Buddy.
They provided strategies that staff could use to help them in class.
Ben and Duncan created a handout for staff, with support from
Miss O’Hara, and made a small video clip to help raise awareness
of ADHD.

Activ8 ...
Activ8 celebrated its 10 year anniversary this session with the
annual spread of activities on offer aimed at keeping active bodies
and active minds for the 8 weeks of our first term.
Doodle and Destress and Drama Club were busy activities, with
all other activities happening in our PE facilities and Badminton,
Basketball, Dance, Dodgeball, Football, Gymnastics, Rounders and
Running all on offer across the programme.
High numbers of S1 pupils participated each week, with a massive
increase in our senior pupil leaders helping at each of the sessions
along with our teaching staff.
Although Activ8 finishes now until August 2020, there are various
extended curricular opportunities around the school on offer on
different days of the week with some new clubs set to begin on
Wednesdays after school as a follow on from Activ8.

Lots of lovely Christmas gift, crafts and activities on
offer for all the family.
The big raffle prize draw will be held at 8.15pm.
Prizes to be won include a luxury hamper, Christmas
gifts and many generous vouchers.
Tickets £3 for adults and £1 for children, includes a
mince pie, mulled wine or tea/coffee or juice.

Langbank Primary School
In May 2019 a team of HMIe inspectors visited Langbank Primary
School and conducted a very thorough and detailed inspection
based around the “Short Inspection Model”.
In August of 2019 the inspection findings were published.
The school achieved a “Very Good” for “Raising Attainment and
Achievement” and a “Good” with elements of very good for
“Learning and Teaching”.
The inspection report highlighted several key areas including:
“The effective leadership of the Head teacher in taking forward
improvements in the work of the school …. Along with staff he has
developed robust approaches to monitoring children’s progress in
their learning”
“A nurturing school community where children are polite and well
behaved. They are very proud of their unique environment… they
engage well in learning tasks and activities and show empathy and
respect to one another and their teachers”
“ Highly motivated staff across the school who have worked in a
focused way to bring about key changes and improvements”
Quote from Head Teacher Simon Cundy:
“We were delighted with the inspection findings. Over the last 4
years we have worked very hard as a community to take forward
many significant changes. We have redeveloped our outdoor
learning spaces including the construction of two trim trails,
an outdoor classroom and a new school garden. We have also
developed the curriculum to ensure that it is challenging and
this has been enhanced by the introduction of new pedagogical
approaches. As a school, we have set very high expectations for all
of our children and this has been reinforced by our school values,
which has resulted in a significant improvement in attainment. This
is evidenced through national standardised assessments in which a
disproportionate number of our children score “very high”.
These changes have taken place as a result of the hard work and
professionalism of all of our staff at every level. The positive changes
have also been facilitated by the positive links we have with the
parents and local community. Above all the increased attainment
has been achieved by the efforts of our wonderful children!”

Gryffe Valley Rotary - Youth Events
Plans are being made for Gryffe Valley Rotary to run several
competitions for young people, including Young Chef, Youth
Speaks, Young Writer, and the Primary School Quiz. Local schools
are being invited to take part. Entries will be through each of the
schools.
Planning is also well advanced for nights out at The Experience
for deserving Young Carers during Young Carers Awareness Week
27th to 30th January 2020.
