Houston Primary School
November 2019
Pupils from the school Gardening Club went to plant spring bulbs
and fill planters at a supported living complex in Johnstone, in
partnership with Quarriers and B & Q. The residents will be able
to enjoy spending time in their sensory garden all year round. The
pupils had a great time and even got a special thank you treat from
the residents.
Renfrewshire Road Race
Pupils from Primary 6 & 7 took part in Renfrewshire’s inter-school
road race. Primary 7 pupil, Zara Redmond outclassed all other
competitors, crossing the finish line well ahead of any other pupil.
An outstanding athlete, with a great future ahead. Well done Zara!
Primary 7 boys and Primary 6 girls gained an overall second place
in their categories. Thank you to the staff and parents who went
along to support our athletes.
Maths Week
Our pupils worked extremely hard during Maths Week, creating
mathematical stories, posters and taking part in the national
Sumdog competition, with Mrs Sime’s P7 pupils gaining 29th place
and Mrs Ellis’ P4/5 pupils gaining 83rd place out of 6427 classes,
demonstrating their excellent attainment levels.
Aidan Smith from P7 demonstrated his amazing mathematical
ability by coming 49th out of approximately 200,000 pupils.
To ‘sum’ it up, Maths Week was a great success!
CAMEO Club
Pupils from the Gardening Club, shared their gardening knowledge
and expertise with members of Houston’s CAMEO Club. They
gave a very clear and informative presentation on all the fruit and
vegetables they had successfully grown from seed to the harvest
stage. The members were very impressed, especially Mrs Dawson.
Afterwards the pupils engaged in gardening word searches and
crossword puzzles with the members of the club.
The pupils received a lovely thank you gift for their efforts.
St Benedict’s High School
St Benedict’s High School, Linwood recently celebrated the
successes of their young people at their annual awards ceremony.
Michelle McManus made a very special guest appearance to help
pupils celebrate and enjoy a fantastic night.
Amongst the many awards of the evening, pupils received awards
for Academic Achievement, Creativity, Sporting Achievements,
Volunteering and a Literature reward dedicated to the late Jan
Merrick, who was a highly respected member of the English
department. Josh Kerrigan and Lucy Kyle received the Dux awards
after achieving fantastic results in their SQA exams, Lucy Parducci
was awarded the Jan Merrick Award, Daniel Okungbowa received
the Benedictine award and Calum Orr and Nikki Lavery received
awards for the charity work they have been actively involved in.
A fantastic night was had by all – congratulations to all pupils and
staff involved!
Houston Toddlers
We have been having a great
time at toddlers with our new
toys and soft play. It has been
a busy time for us at Halloween,
and we are now looking forward
to our Christmas activities.
On the 12th December we are
having Rouken Glen Pottery;
payment for this will be taken
on 12th December, and items
delivered the following week.
Thursday 19th December is a
very special day at toddlers
as we are hoping we will have
a very welcome visitor at our
Christmas party... Please come
along and join us on Thursday
mornings in the West Halls
,from 9.30am until 11.30am. We would appreciate if you would bring
your own cup (preferably with a lid) and a cup for the children.
