JOGGING THROUGH ANGKOR
Cambodia’s biggest running event, the Angkor
Wat International Half Marathon, gives
participants a chance to hotfoot it through the
famous ruins of Angkor Wat. Held annually since
1996, proceeds from the run go to support
efforts towards a global ban of landmines.
This year’s event, held again within the
confines of Angkor Archaeological Park, will
comprise 21-kilometre and 10km half marathons
as well as 5km and 3km fun runs. Angkor Wat,

ROYAL BARGE PROCESSION
RESCHEDULED
If you’re seeking a once-in-a-lifetime experience,
look no further than the grand historic spectacle
taking place on the River of Kings in December.
The Royal Barge Procession, marking the
conclusion of the Royal Coronation of King Rama X,
will now be held on 12 December at 3.30pm
instead of 24 October as originally scheduled.
Their Majesties the King and Queen will
embark the Suphannahong Royal Barge at
Wasukri Pier for a 45-minute excursion down
the Chao Phraya River to the Ratchaworadit Pier.
The procession will feature 52 ceremonial
barges, including four royal barges – namely
the Suphannahong or Golden Swan, the
Anantanakkharat and its multi-headed Naga
prow, the Anekkachatpuchong with ornately
carved Naga figures, and the Narai Song Suban.
The barges will be rowed by 2,200 oarsmen.
Special areas on both banks of the river
have been set aside for the public to watch
the grand spectacle, including Santichai Prakan
Park, Thammasat University, Nagaraphirom
Park, Siriraj Hospital, King Bhumibol’s 72nd
Birthday Anniversary Park and a viewpoint
under the Rama VIII Bridge.

TUNES OF THE GALAXY
With the ninth instalment of Star Wars – The
Rise of Skywalker – set to arrive just before
Christmas, the Malaysian Philharmonic
Orchestra will be whetting moviegoers’
appetites with a special tribute concert. “The
Music of Star Wars” will be performed at
the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas under the
lightsaber of conductor Dirk Brossé. Fans will
get to hear the award-winning scores of the
entire Star Wars series composed by John
Williams, during a performance lasting two
