Want to zhoosh up your home this holiday? Go with blue – it is an allaround
crowd-pleaser, the VIP of the crayon box. A go-to hue, blue is easy
to decorate with and, more importantly, live in. From calming sky blue to
electrifying cobalt, there’s a blue hue that suits every style!
• Warm blues, like denim, ocean blue, or slate blue, contain hints of red.
Colour experts say they advance or come toward you, so they help
make a room feel cosier. Decorators often like warm blues in social
spaces, like the living room, the kitchen, or the dining room.
• Shades known as cool blues – like cobalt, turquoise, and ice blue
– have yellow in them and tend to recede, or back away, which can
help a small space look bigger. Colour experts explain that cool blues
encourage calmness (which is nice for a bedroom) and focus (say, in a
home office). Sometimes cool blues can go a little further and be cold.
But in a bathroom, where you want a crisp, clean vibe, that can be a
good thing.
Holiday tips for your pets:
Pet guru, Elize van der Merwe from
Hillside Pet Hyper in Krugersdorp, shares
her top tips for taking care of your pets
during the holidays.
• Whether you are going on holiday or
staying at home, your animals should
be high on your priority list. If dogs
or cats are staying over at boarding
kennels for the first time, it is advisable
to let them stay for a night or two
before you go on holiday to see how
with their favourite food and toys.
• For birds, it’s advised to get extra
vitamins and something to calm them
down from the pet shop as they tend
to pluck their feathers when they
are stressed from not having their
favourite human around.
• If people are using fireworks in your
area, bring your pets inside and leave
the radio or television on for them so
that they won’t get as stressed about
the noise. If you
are at home and your animals are
stressed, use CalmEze calming tablets
or a calming collar available from your
vet or pet store.
• Whatever your plans are, make sure
your pets are chipped so that they can
be traced and that their inoculations
are up to date so that if they get lost,
they don’t contract diseases. But most
of all, give them love and attention –
it’s the festive season after all. Details:
