Mick and
John win
the Montgo
Quaich Cup
ON 1st November, Montgo
Golf Society played a Pairs
Better Ball Medal for the
Quaich Cup.
Our sponsors for this annual
event were Liz and
Barry Butler.
The winners, with a score
of 67, were Mick Farmer
and John Ross. Second place
went to George Braddick
and Keith Cottrell, with 68
points, beating Geoff Willcock
and Wolfgang Schuster
into 3rd, on countback, also
with 68 points. Fourth place
went to Susanne Duner and
Neil Carter, with 69 points.
The nearest the pins were
won by Felid Baybut, with
4.04 metres, for the ladies,
on the 3rd and Simon Fox,
4.0 metres for the Men. Simon
also won on the 18th
with a second shot to within
2.1 metres.
We had four twos today.
Liz Butler winning two coveted
Montgo Balls, and Ilona
Mathieu and Simon Fox
winning a coveted Montgo
Ball each.
It was nice to see some of our returning
members, Liz and Barry, Wolfgang,
FRIDAY 8TH NOVEMBER 2019 45
Sports & Local News
Steve Crossan and Alan Webster.
Next week our competition is the
James Randall Birthday Trophy,
sponsored by Neil Carter.
WEEK 11
AFTER last week’s goal
feast in the Premier
League, the Alfaz Fantasy
Football League slowed
down with the average
score dropping to just over
18 points (joint lowest of
the season).
The full Premier League,
at the weekend, supplied
the A.F.F.L. with 26 goals,
four clean sheets, 36 yellow
cards and one red one,
which was Spur’s likeable
Son Heung-Min, who was
involved in a horrific ankle
injury to Everton’s midfielder
Andre Gomes. (Have
a speedy recovery Andre).
The referees, or should I
say VAR, were not in a giving
mood, only awarding one
penalty, which was given
to Watford.
Kapur’s team, Napali
Eleven, are enjoying a good
spell at the top of the Alfaz
Fantasy Football League as
they made it six weeks at the
summit.
Currently they hold a
slight six point lead over
Chris’s Promotion Again,
then comes Martin’s Marauders,
who are well in contention
to take over the top
spot, being only 10 points
behind the leaders.
At the other end of the
table, Lyn’s Handbrake City
have finally landed on the
bottom spot and are just two
points away from Romeo’s
My Dad Supports Liverpool.
Lyn’s team collected the
Wooden Spoon three seasons
ago, so she is no stranger to
life at the bottom.
There are no changes in
the top three places in our Junior
League, although Luca’s
Lucky Red F.C. did increase
their advantage at the top
over Harley’s Ginger Ninjar
to a comfortable 29 points.
Young Olly’s team, Olly 11,
are still hanging on in third
place, but they are now coming
under pressure from last
seasons winner of this section,
William & Henry, who
are just one point behind
them.
Down at the bottom, Romeo’s
My Dad Supports Liverpool
have been there for the
last eight weeks and, to be
fair, they don’t look likely to
get out of their predicament
as they are now a massive
55 points adrift of William &
Henry Two.
Isobel’s team, The Bluebells,
are sitting comfortably
ALFAZ FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE
at the top of our Mark Carter
Ladies Section with an 11
point gap between the much
improved Annette’s team,
Hairnette, who have been on
an upward curve in the last
few weeks.
Pauline’s Vodka Army are
in third place and they always
stay within striking
distance of the summit as
the season unfolds.
Twelve points separate
the two teams at the bottom,
where Lyn’s Handbrake City
trail Gil’s Kippax.
It really is nip and tuck
at the top of our Across the
Costa’s Golden Boot League.
Martin’s Marauders remain
in pole position for the second
week running, but overall
we have had eight different
leaders in 11 weeks.
Only one point is the
diference between Chris’s
Promotion Again and the
leaders.
Bill’s East Fifers have
been making rapid progress
in the last few weeks and are
now in joint fifth spot with
Lucy’s Luck.
Terry’s Could it be This
Year closed the gap on
Mark’s Inter Rubber to only
five points at the bottom.
Martin’s Marauders are
also top of our Champion
of Champions League with
a 13 point lead over Wade’s
Alli Barber, who clocked up
this weeks top score of 49
points.
Former front-runners Max
& Paddy have slipped down
to third and are six points
ahead of Pauline’s Vodka
Army.
Gil’s Kippax are still stuck
at the bottom, only five points
behind Luna’s Liver Birds.
We have two teams heading
into our Monthly Wine
Draw for November and
they are Wade’s Alli Barber,
which has been mentioned
before, with the top score of
49 points and Ben’s team,
Guadamentell, who got our
lowest score of a big fat zero.
Manager of the Month for
November is being kindly
sponsored by Nikki & Gary at
The Drunken Duck, in Alfaz,
who provide a good olde fashioned
English breakfast and
a super sunday roast, as well
as providing other excellent
home-made English dishes.
With only one week gone,
Wade’s Alli Barber have got
off to a flying start by taking
a 10 point advantage over
Eric’s Peaky Blinders. Promotion
Again, Napali Eleven,
R.F.C. 1872 and Bill’s
East Fifers are in contention
for this super meal for two at
The Drunken Duck.
The first round of our K.O.
Cup competition took place
last weekend, which resulted
in two ties finishing level.
Vina’s City Link drew 15-15
with Unbelievable Tekkers,
while Kerry’s Penfold Puffins
finished 10-10 with Rachel’s
Blue Murder. Both Replays
will take place this week.
The favourites, Napali
Eleven, cruised through to
the next round by beating
William & Henry Two 36-8.
There were some really
tight games, with Could
it be This Year just edging
out Hugonauts 11-10,
Kath’s Bingo Babes scraped
through by beating Dave’s
Makems Elite 18-17, which
was a victory for a Geordie
over a Mackem.
The biggest win went to
Alli Barber, who crushed
Ducky Blues 49-24.
The results and the draw
for the next round will soon
be up on our website, which
is www.alfazffl.com
