BIBLE TRIVA ANSWERS

NOTE: What is a “Holy Kiss?”

The kiss of peace is an ancient traditional

Christian greeting, sometimes

also called the "holy kiss",

"brother kiss" (among men), or

"sister kiss" (among women).

Such greetings signify a wish and

blessing that peace be with the

recipient, and besides their spontaneous

uses they have certain

ritualized or formalized uses long

established in liturgy. Many denominations

use other forms of

greeting (besides literal kisses) to

serve equivalent purposes; they

include handshakes, gestures,

and hugs, any of which may be

called a sign of peace.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for,

behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy,

For unto you is born this day in the city of David

Godfather of Hair

As a young man in Chicago, Jheri

Redding, an Illinois farm boy, was

teaching chemistry and working as

a hair stylist using beauty products

that did not perform to his expectations.

He began experimenting with

chemicals and other ingredients he

found in his kitchen, such as mayonnaise

and vinegar, to make his

own shampoos, rinses and hairdressing

solutions to improve the

hair of his clients. From his research

grew the treatments, styling creams

and gels that became known as

Jheri Redding Products.

Redding eventually founded four

hair-care products companies, revolutionized

the economics of the hair

salon industry and changed the way

much larger companies market

shampoos. Mr. Redding was a

founder of Jheri Redding Products

in 1956, Redken in 1960, Jhirmack

in 1968 and Nexxus Products in

1979. The Jheri curl is a permanent

wave hairstyle that was popular

among African Americans during

the 1980s and was invented by

Redding.

Hard Times

Mr. Redding was the first to make

"ph-balanced" shampoos that

match the mild acidity of human

skin, to put vitamins in hair-care

products and to market added minerals,

pitching their supposed benefits

with evangelistic fervor at conventions.

Before Mr. Redding came

along, hair salons sold few if any

products to customers.

Redding was born in Rantoul, Ill.,

the son of Irish immigrant farmers,

in 1907. He became one of the first

men licensed in Illinois as a cosmetologist

because during the Depression

he saw that hairdressers

made more money than farmers and

many other people.

Redding also raced Thoroughbred

horses under the Jhayare Stables

name. Rhedding died in 1998.
