Back in the day, (oh here we go,
another back in the day story) when
we had a Christmas Stocking, it had
a banana, orange, an apple, a bag
of mixed nuts (still in the shell),
maybe a bag of the hard Christmas
candy, and sometimes I got a small
bag of chocolate covered peanuts.
They were a favorite of mine growing
up. The first Christmas tree I
remember was an aluminum one that
had the color wheel spotlight that

spun with 4 different colors. My
parents allowed my 5th grade
class to use that tree as it wasn’t
allowed for classrooms to use a
tree with corded lights on it. I
guess the school was afraid of a
fire starting. Ironically, the furnace
at school had caught the 3 fifth
grade classrooms on fire one night
so we were allowed to use a building
that belonged to the Catholic

Church just across the street from
the school for the rest of the fifth
grade school year. I think about all
the Christmas stuff that is out now,
and how back then for window
“clings” my sister colored, cut out,
and taped Santa & the reindeer to
the window.
