IN BRIEF
DMC’s infrastructure phase 1 project to support the
industrial and commercial developments
The substantial Dh109 million investment will enable the company’s sub-developers to complete their project
and subsequently strengthen the local maritime sector
Renowned maritime cluster Dubai Maritime City (DMC)
recently held a groundbreaking ceremony to develop and
enhance its Commercial precinct. The project authorized
as ‘Infrastructure 1’ began earlier this month and is expected
to conclude in early 2021. The Phase I development
of Infrastructure 1 will significantly enrich the foundation
of DMC’s Commercial district by execution of both
design and construction.
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman
and CEO, said: “Development of Phase I comes at an important
time with upgraded facilities and services to existing
and potential customers. We look forward to its continued
success and contribution to the economy, creating
jobs at the heart of Dubai.”
Infrastructure 1 effectively translates into DMC’s vision
of developing and operating as the World’s Maritime Center.
The comprehensive scope of work for Infrastructure 1
includes: new roads and paving, sewerage and storm water
systems, irrigation, telecom connectivity, street lighting,
electrical works, a pump station, and maintenance of
existing services. The completion of these tasks will fulfill
DMC’s aspirations of transforming the city into a multipurpose
maritime cluster comprised of industrial, commercial,
residential and leisure facilities. These works will
further upgrade DMC’s facilities and realize the company’s
vision of creating a dynamic urban lifestyle for the entire
maritime community.
Commendably Supporting Sub-developers
Capt. Rado Antolovic, PhD, CEO & MD – Maritime Services
Division, DP World, UAE explained, “The Phase I development
is the first step in an extensive process that will
solidify DMC’s status as the World Maritime Cluster. With
the company ideally positioned at the centre of a region
that has access to over two billion people, the completion
of Infrastructure 1 will strengthen DMC’s Commercial
district to accordingly fortify the UAE’s overall maritime
service offering.”
The Phase I development of Infrastructure 1 is a strategic
project that will greatly assist in maximizing DMC’s
ability to provide first-rate customer satisfaction. This is
noteworthy given the high priority which the company
gives its clients. The adequate support of DMC’s sub-developers
will directly correlate with the company’s ability
to provide added value to its existing clients and increase
potential to secure additional customers as well.
Antolovic elaborated saying, “DMC’s intent has always
been to build and operate a world-class maritime facility
that nurtures the growth and stability of the marine and
maritime industries across the world. This investment will
contribute to the company’s objective by providing DMC’s
sub-developers with the necessary resources to complete
their project. This is essentially the first step to serve and
finance both DMC’s regional and international ambitions.”
DMC already maintains a wide-ranging industrial district;
this includes workshops, warehouses, showrooms,
shops, office spaces, ship repair plots, yacht manufacturing
workshops and a ship lifting facility. The development
of the commercial district through Infrastructure 1 is expected
to serve adjacently with the industrial district to
inject even greater value into the maritime sector.
