The Lungs

Carbon dioxide is

excreted though our

lungs, which is a waste

product. This process is

effortless with good lungs,

plenty of exercise, and

oxygen. However, if you

poor breathing, then it

provides a greater strain

on the rest of the

excretion organs, such as

the kidneys, the skin, and

the intestinal system.

Anni Dahms

Owner of the retail chain

ANNI’s VITAL SHOP. Nurse- &

Health specialist, Biopath and

Nutritional Adviser.

One of my old friends, from when I lived in Denmark,

called me with dismay and told me that she had

been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis.

We talked a bit back and forth about what she

could do to live the best possible life with the disease.

Pulmonary fibrosis means formation of connective

tissue in the lungs, so that they become stiff and

hard, this in turn makes them worse at oxygenating

the blood, due to the increased scar tissue formation

in the lung alveoli. It will then become very difficult

to breathe and is often accompanied by severe

coughing.

After the conversation I was left pondering about

how little thought we give to our breathing in our

daily lives, and how important it is to be mindful of

our lung’s health.

There can be many reasons for why you don’t

breathe in all the way. The worst daily enemy is stress

and sitting down too many hours in the day, which

unfortunately is the reality for many of us sitting in

front of the computer, TV, etc. You forget to breathe

all the way in, which lowers your lung capacity. This

increases the risk of diseases, such as bronchitis from

colds. We are currently heading into the common

cold and flu season, which will undoubtedly lead

Our pulmonary function drops as

we get older. It’s not uncommon,

that it would’ve dropped around

40% at around 70 years of age, if

you don’t perform any exercise

where you use your breathing

consciously.

to many lung infections, which

among other things is due to our

unawareness of our daily breathing.

One of my dearest friends died

recently from a lung disease

after working in an asbestos

filled environment for many

years. If you find yourself in surroundings

with a lot of pollution

from chemicals, car exhaust,

cigarette smoke etc. then you

must make sure that you protect

yourself and make a conscious

effort to protect your pulmonary

If you’re a smoker, then

you have to quit, or

minimize the amount of

cigarettes you smoke as

much as possible. Louise

Hay writes in her book

“The power of love” an

easy phrase, which can

be a good way to quit

the cigarettes. You tell

yourself “Any need for

cigarettes has disappeared,

now I’m free!”,

I would suggest you quit

now instead of waiting.

Even if you cannot regain

your lung function, then

you can at least stop it

from getting worse.

function. This is true both in your

place of work and in your spare

time. Regular exercise where you

incorporate breathing exercises,

could be a really good option.

If you are thinking about vacation

and want to be good to

your lungs and in turn to yourself,

then you may want to consider

a trip to a mountainous region,

with plenty of light, sun, and fresh

air.

It’s not just serious afflictions that

occur from reduced lung capacity.

It often starts with forgetfulness,

and/or gray and tired skin.

The diet

If your lungs are weak, then your

diet becomes an even more

important factor, because your

body has to work extra hard to

make sure that you have energy

to cope with everyday life. It’s

important that the body get the

necessary nutrients filled with

quality vitamins and minerals for

the best possible reaction. Think

of the many helpful juices, which

are best to drink freshly pressed

and ecological, such as carrot

juice, grape juice, and orange

juice. Drink them slowly and in

small sips, to ensure the best possible

effect.

Fresh ecological vegetables

has to be a part of your daily

diet. Make lovely salads and

use lemon instead of balsamic

and other kinds of vinegar. If it’s

difficult to change your dietary

habits, then tell yourself several

times a day “fresh fruits and vegetables

are great for my body”,

these small sayings can be really

effective when changing your

diet. When talking about good

herbs, it’s worth mentioning

rosemary, thyme, and oregano,

which are all antibacterial just

like garlic and ordinary onions,

which also belong in the daily

diet.

You should also make sure that

you consume healthy sources of

protein. It could be beneficial to

eat fatty fish, a bit of light meat,

nuts, almonds, eggs, and avocado.

You could also buy some

high-quality protein powders. It

can be a bit complicated with

diary products, since some people

has or develops intolerance

to these, which can also lead to

difficulty breathing and coughing.

Some people also complain

that soya products increase their

slime production.

Rid pre-cooked meals from your

diet. These days I often talk to

people who never cook their

food from scratch, which I think

is quite a shame. A lot of precooked

meals are canned or

pre-processed in some way. It’s

then frozen, filled with chemicals

just to end up in the microwave

oven, before it’s eaten.

Use your self-discipline and

avoid candy or at least minimize

your consumption of sweets,

white bread, caffeine, and all

kinds of sodas. Make sure you

drink plenty of water, preferably

2 liters daily and make sure you

have some tasty herbal tees at

home and/or work.

Dietary supplements

• Take a quality multivitamin/

mineral as a base.

• Vitamin-C helps the lungs

and reduces the risk of different

afflictions such as asthma

and bronchitis. Take roughly

1 gram daily for prevention.

If you already struggle with

your lungs, then you should

increase the dosage to for

instance 3 grams. Take the

supplement throughout the

day, instead of just once.

Vitamin-C has many complex

effects, probably more than

we know today.

• Vitamin-E can also aid weak

lung tissue. Vitamin-C together

with vitamin-E makes for

a strong defense and fights

free radicals multiple places

in the body.

• Extra calcium and magnesium

are things, which people

with reduced pulmonary

function is often lacking.

• Take an extra supplement

of vitamin-D. studies have

shown that if you lack vitamin-D,

then it will affect the

lung’s defense mechanism

and the lung’s functionality in

general.

• A lack of vitamin-A can

increase the risk of weak

lungs if you smoke.

• Make sure that you get an

extra supplement of vitamin-

B. You may want to take a

supplement where all the

vitamin-B are collected. We

need all of them, and if you

are missing one of the vitamin-B’s

then you’re probably

missing multiple.

• Colloidal silver can be consumed

orally. It has been

shown that it can improve

destroyed lung tissue. In

addition, it kills bacteria and

protects against viruses.

• The essential oil from eucalyptus

is antioxidant and

anti-inflammatory and can

aid many lung afflictions,

it can be inhaled from a

vaper.

• Make sure you keep your

intestinal system healthy. A

large part of your immune

system springs from this part.

That is why it might be a

good idea to get a quality

broad spectrum probiotic.

You should be especially

mindful of this if you take or

have taken antibiotics.

• You could also take a supplement

of garlic, which

both aids your immune system

and can help if you suffer

from coughing and high

blood pressure.

• Omega-3, perhaps in the

form of a high-quality fish oil,

can also be of great help.

Omega-3 also come in

vegan form.

• Lecithin is also beneficial.

Take 3 large teaspoons of

granulate either from soya

or sunflower seeds. It’s easily

absorbable and aids both

the brain and various different

membranes. It can also

help fight chronic afflictions.

• If you lack energy, then it

might be because you are

missing Q10. Our bodies produce

Q10 naturally, but the

production is reduced with

age.

• Even if there is no miracle

cure, has it been shown that

cannabis oil, also called

CBD (the legal kind, without

THC), can improve the pulmonary

function for some

people, especially the ones

with acute lung damage.

Use the CBD oil with caution

and make sure to get

a pure original oil of a good

quality.

Tips

• If you believe that you

might have reduced lung

function, then ask your doctor

to refer you to a pulmonary

test.

• It’s important to get exercise.

It might be a good

idea to start doing yoga,

perhaps a kind that emphasizes

different breathing

exercises.

• You can also seek different

forms of education, where

breathing is the primary

focus.

• It might also be a good

idea to participate in song

education, either in groups

or with a personal vocal

coach.

• Be aware that many cleaning

supplies and gardening

supplies contain different

chemicals, which certainly

aren’t good for your

lungs. However, there are

many lovely, environmentally

friendly, and effective

options available today.

• It can also be a great help

to inhale the steam from a

warm bowl of water containing

drops of essential

oils.

• It’s also often seen that sorrow

is the reason for different

lung afflictions.

• Louise Hay writes in her little

book “healthy mind,

healthy body” that a plausible

psychological cause of

lung distress is: DEPRESSION,

SORROW, AND FEAR for

receiving life. Not feeling

worthy to live life to it’s fullest.

A new thought pattern

that is great to use is: “I’ve

room to breathe in all of

lives essence, I live life to the

fullest with joy”.

• It’s a great idea to repeat

the new thought pattern to

yourself several times a day.

Pretend that you are in the

middle of a healing process.

Do it over a longer period

of time, and you will start to

see results.
