BORDERS VINTAGE AUTOMOBILE CLUB
BVAC members and friends from the Rolls Royce
Enthusiasts Club took a variety of interesting old
cars along to Thirlestane Castle in August to meet
Peter Davison and Christopher Timothy (remember
‘All Creatures Great and Small’?) and film a piece for
their Channel 4 series ‘Great British Car Journeys’. It
was broadcast last month and is still available online,
but hurry, as by the time you read this it will only be
available for a few more days! Series 2, Episode 3
is the one you want. It takes the pair on a run from
Edinburgh to Hadrian’s Wall through some lovely
Borders countryside.
Meanwhile, although you don’t see so many of the
old cars on the roads through the winter, we’re not
idle. Maintenance, repairs and refurbishment keep
going and of course planning is underway for our
next big show at Thirlestane! More details will be
announced in the spring, but the date for your diary
is Sunday, June 7th.

The day visitor season at Thirlestane Castle may now be
over for another year but the holiday apartments are as busy
as ever and available throughout the year.
We now have five apartments available and can sleep a total
of 16 people within the castle.
We are currently finalising our summer events and hope to
have a number of special events at the castle throughout the
summer including outdoor theatre and of course the BVAC
Classic Festival of Motoring which will be held on Sunday
7th June. We will be announcing our 2020 Events in the
New Year so please follow us on social media to keep up to
date with what we have planned. You can also check our
website for news and all our events -
www.thirlestanecastle.co.uk
We are always looking for new volunteers to help look after
our vistors at the castle. If you have a few hours spare over
the summer months and would like to offer your time please
get in contact. You don’t need to be an expert in history,
we have several different roles to suit different interests and
skills.
We have the Historic Houses Christmas cards for sale which
feature a beautiful snowy Thirlestane captured by Lauder
photographer Phil Wilkinson (below). Please contact the
castle directly if you are interested in purchasing a pack.
We will be selling a selection of Christmas Trees from
Thirlestane Castle Caravan Park this winter. If you are
looking to purchase a tree to decorate then these will be
available shortly with a donation from every sale going
towards the charity Click Sergent.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the castle in 2019.
We wish all Lauderdale residents a very Happy Christmas
and send good wishes for the New Year ahead.
