Porsche specialist, so we had a chat to Daniel
Bull about what it is like to have a forecourt
full of temptation!
How long have your family been running the business and
how did it start?
Dad started the business 25 years ago this year. A mechanic
by trade, he worked for a number of other businesses the latter
being a Porsche main agent for 15 years. The idea of a Porsche
specialist was born out of that; being able to offer customers
a dealer-based service and expertise but at a lower price.
Predominantly a repair and restoration business, we decided to
start the sales side about 3 years ago to offer customers a small
selection of hand-picked vehicles that we are happy to put our
name to. We are now a small team of 7.
As well as sales you also offer a number of other services,
including a pre-purchase inspection – for such a finely
honed machine this must be a really important factor when
buying a second hand Porsche?
They say there is no such thing as a cheap Porsche and that’s
usually true. That said there are some lovely well cared for an
maintained cars out there. A pre-purchase inspection can offer
a number of benefits when making such a big decision. It may
just confirm what a lovely car it is and that you should certainly
go for it, it may highlight a few issues that are either present
now or may become more significant in the future. So it can be
useful in terms of a negation point or purely to help you budget
your life journey with the car, no hidden surprises. Of course
it may also flag up some significant items that would be too
drastic to repair or rectify and that it may not be the best idea.
When looking for the perfect car you should certainly look for a
good history file with regular use and maintenance by a dealer
or recognised specialist as well as other more obvious things
such as overall condition.
You also offer storage which must be a really useful option
for people who don’t use their pride and joy all of the time –
what do you offer?
Yes we do indeed, we have a secure, fully insured, off-site
storage facility that can hold approx. 25 cars, a basic dry
storage option or a more involved level which includes regular
running, bespoke cover and battery condition based charger. A
Porsche is certainly a car you can use all year round, however
a number of our clients may have them as second or third cars
and therefore may not have the space to store them or want
them out of the horrible winter weather. We are completely
flexible in terms of access to the car for that sunny weekend
and happy to offer short, medium, and long-term options.
And finally, I have to ask, what is your own favourite
Porsche model?
Ahh that’s too hard to choose, with Porsche there really is
something out there for everyone ranging from 2 seater sports
cars to hybrid 4 x 4’s. I think personally a classic 80’s 911 is
pretty hard to beat although as an all year round proposition I
do love a Cayenne Turbo.
