Care is much in the news and we are therefore delighted to
speak to someone who is very much involved in the sector
– and the recipient of a significant personal award too. We
spoke to Sally Rhodes of Innovations Wiltshire, who has just
been awarded South West Care Manager of the year in the
Great British Care Awards…

First of all, well done, you must be delighted – what does it
mean to you to win this award?
I am very proud to win this award because I was nominated by
my employees and the clients, which makes it really special. For
me it’s about the team and they are all amazing!
A carers role can be challenging but so rewarding, no two days
are ever the same and my job is about everyone’s wellbeing,
carers and clients alike.
There is a movement in many towns around the country to
make them dementia friendly, how important do you think
this is……
Marlborough has an above average of residents over the age
of 55 and nationally 1 in 6 people over the age of 80 being
diagnosed with dementia. There are also approximately 42,000
people under 65 having a diagnosis of dementia in the UK, so it
is therefore important that the town is able to cater for the needs
of all its residents going forward. We have joined forces with
the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce who are supporting
us to raise awareness and if you would like to know more about
dementia do visit the Alzheimer’s Society website.

The clients - I make
sure every client knows
me and I them, and they
are all so interesting.
They all have so much
life experience, they
have knowledge and
they have seen so
much, they can make
you laugh and cry and they are what the job is about.
