COVER
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
This decade saw
the most swings of
fortune since the civil
war, We started with
the best president
and ended with the
worst. Even as his
party tries to distance
themselves, many are
likely to hang together
for their hanging
together.
But we saw many
saints and sinners
exposed. Fortunately,
we also saw some
myths torn down and
their inner working
exposed.
For us , the DDG
started the decade as
the least magazine,
but ended it as the
only one left. And
with many of our
original advertisers
still in place and have
saw growth where
others have struggled
and with their dying
breaths ask me how I
did it..
I just smile and know
thats it has always
been the loyal reader
that kept us going, .
But we also did what
the others would not
do, and that is protect
CALIFORNIA LAWS
Where is that list?
While much of the nation is trying to turn
the clock back 100 years California will
meet 2020 with new state laws. Hundreds
of them. Fixing or attempting issues like
gun control, protections against predatory
lenders , increased pay and protections for
workers and sadly, the killing the dream of
every gay boy as a Siegfried & Roy Touring
circus shows featuring exotic animals.
AB 5 - Gig worker law
The landmark labor law reclassifies some
independent contractors as employees.
Requires independent or contract workers
to be considered employees and not
independent workers if the employer
controls the work, if the work is part of the
company's core business, or if the employer
directs the worker in their job.
SB 3 - Minimum wage increase
The law raises the state minimum wage to
$13 an hour for workplaces with 26 or more
employees and to $12 for workplaces with
fewer than 26 employees.
AB 9 - Employment discrimination
The law allows employees up to three
years to file complaints of discrimination,
harassment or retaliation
SB 142 - Protection for nursing mothers
The law requires employers to provide clean
and safe lactation rooms for breastfeeding
mothers.
SB 188 - Hairstyle discrimination
The law protects employees from racial
discrimination because of hairstyles
California becomes the first state to ban
workplace and school discrimination based
on a person's natural hairstyle or texture,
including braids, twists, and locks.
SB 83 - Extending paid leave
The law increases paid leave from six to
eight weeks for people taking care of a
seriously ill family member
AB 51 - Arbitration agreements (blocked
on Dec. 30, 2019)*
SB 8 - Banning smoking at state beaches
The law bans smoking at all state beaches
and parks
SB 313 - Circus Cruelty Prevention Act
The law bans the use of exotic animals like
elephants in circus acts.
AB 12 - Gun violence restraining orders
The law expands who can petition a judge
to confiscate someone’s weapons if they
believe that person may be violent
SB 439 - Juvenile hall age
The law changes the age minors can be to
12 in order for them to be sent to juvenile
hall. A child under 12 would be released to
their parent or legal guardian.
AB 32 - Bans private, for-profit prisons
The law bars California from keeping
Christmas Tree Recycling
“The holiday season always ends with
plenty of returns, and your Christmas tree
is no exception,” according to an agency
statement. “Return your natural Christmas
tree to the ground it grew in by dropping it
off at a county landfill to be recycled into a
nutrient-rich soil amendment.”
Note every year we donate our
noncollectable ornaments and tree topper
to charity and cut needles to fill socks for
storage areas and clothes drawers. Sorry, we
save the Pokemon-Hello Kitty collaboration
ornaments.
Most trash haulers serving the county
retrieve firs for recycling at least two weeks
after Christmas.
Trees must be stripped of decorations,
including lights and tinsel, before they can
be recycled. Flocked trees are not accepted
and are supposed to be chopped up and put
into trash receptacles.
The Khoisan people of Botswana share mitochondrial DNA with the last matrilineal
common ancestor of all humans alive today.
Some 22,000 years ago, they were the largest group of humans on earth: the Khoisan, a
tribe of hunter-gatherers in southern Africa.
Today, only about 100,000 Khoisan, who are also known as Bushmen, remain. Stephan
C. Schuster, professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, has published
new research about the tribe, many of whom now live in poverty, their cultural traditions
endangered.
Asked on NPR How do the Khoisan maintain their way of living today?
The answer is they don't. We are seeing the end of their culture and their hunter-gatherer
lifestyle, which is being replaced by herding and agriculture.
Studies show that modest weight
in those with normal blood pressure.
Healthy tips so you wont fail this
Simple Don't make one. Who put
them self in the position of possible
failure, you probably should get
theropy .
Many Americans have turned to
omega-3 fish oil supplements, which
have benefits for healthy people and
also those with heart disease.
Nearly half of all adults older than
age 18 have prehypertension or
hypertension, as measured by average
of two or more readings at two or
more doctor's visits.
According to the American Heart
Association, 59 million people in the
U.S. have prehypertension. People
with prehypertension may have a
greater risk for other cardiovascular
disease (CVD) risk factors. These risk
factors -- such as high cholesterol,
obesity, and diabetes -- are seen more
Don't call every one to wish them a
happy news year. Every day will be
a new years day until the end of the
year so you got time.
Lose weight by stopping all eating.
Thats a hard one because its success
often kills you. The key is substitution
here. Just substitute every thing
that tastes good for stuff that looks
and tastes really bad and made from
vegetables. Each whatever is about
20 calories per serving. They a high
percentage of water, so you can feel
full from eating them. 20 calories per
serving. They have a lot of potassium
in them, which can help regulate
blood pressure and fluid. Ask your
doctor if vegetables if he says no get a
AdamsArtExpose’ ART
2019 ART OF NOTE IN THE PALM SPRINGS AREA
The art scene in the Palm Springs area
was dominated early from February to
April by the Desert X Project. Desert
X was a vast art exhibit spread over 55
miles throughout the Coachella Valley.
For those who may have seen the total
exhibition or parts of it, you may have
come away seeing the objectives of the
works of art, or you may not. the theme
of the project was broad attempting
to represent the physical makeup and
the complexities of climate change
on the desert landscape as well as the
heavy footprint of human habitation.
However, the history of the desert is not
represented. The first inhabitants were
of the Native American Agua Caliente
Band of Cahuilla Native Americans.
Their culture and arts are not represented
in the exhibit. The LGBTQ community
was not represented, although Palm
Springs is known to have one third of
it's population LGBTQ. Immigrants are
also a large part of the makeup of the
culture and population of the Coachella
Valley. Their initial entrance to the
Valley largely as illegal immigrants, the
artist Will Boone's display of an entrance
into a claustrophobic tunnel provided an
experiential view of the immigrant story.
Artist Eric Mack created an exhibit at
the Salton Sea consisting of multicolored
fabrics draped over an abandoned gas
station at the entrance to the Salton
Sea area. The exhibit was apparently
vandalized early at the beginning of
the show in February. The apparent
objective of the exhibit was to show the
degradation of the Salton Sea area and
reflect it's earlier more colorful history.
The Palm Springs Art Museum had a
AdamsArtExpose’

number of notable exhibits during the
year. The Kinesthesida exhibit displayed
highlights of kinetic art which involves
sculpture, painting, and movement. One
of the artists involved was Cruz-Diez the
work was a use of the space in the museum
as a canvas which was projected various
fluorescent light tubes of blue, green. and
red light to walk into creating an experience
of light transformation with the mixing of
color in light to reflect oranges and violet.
A current exhibit at the Palm Springs Art
Museum titled Touching History Stonewall
50 is open from October of this year
through March of 2020. This exhibit honors
the history and struggles of the LGBTQ
community.
The show features 8 contemporary artists,
photographers, painters,
and, draughtsmen, including a disabled
gay artist, Robert Andy Coombs, who,
in a description of his work, "explores
the intersections between disability
and sexuality, initing male-identified
individuals he meets online to be
photographed with him in scenarios that
range from tender to explicit."
This is a smattering of some of the art that
has been and is still available during 2019
of which we are fortunate to have easily
accessible to us in this community that
respects and invites art and artists from all
areas of the art spectrum of which we can
participate. Next week LBBTQ artist who
our loyal customers and our readers.
Our presence is as always your protection.
Corporations often act like gangs and
decided our ads are too salacious for their
customers, even the gay ones. Others
jumped on that bandwagon and kept telling
our customers they must switch to them
to survive. But they themselves did not
survive.
We did not alter what's acceptable by their
heterosexual Christian ethics. "Delete the
small business and the massage ads", they
would say.
But when a person's rights are ignored or
does a bad thing, even if we love them,
we will address it. It is important to
remember that many of our local groups
and organizations that were founded and
nurtured by us and all our publications.
Gay publications are like the canary in the
mines. We provide publicity and help the
LGBT traveler. Sure, the living was easy
until the Internet hit. But I was programing
the first search engine, working with
science and data regulators like Experian
and the FDA, This helped us navigate and
explain the future to our readers and our
advertisers. Building regulation compliance
is now the future and we are in print and on
line. To stay. Because we made the changes
necessary to survive a changing world.
But our biggest contribution can be seen
in our numbers, with 6k average readers
per month and we continue weekly sell out
of our print version. Yes, we put some hot
asses into great seats but we also protect
those asses and their seats by keeping our
prices reasonable. And that helps us grow
as a community because people grasps for
stars when they are on stable footing. Now
there is a place they can still call when the
others stop listening.
Not just the DDG, but all the spokes in the
wheel of gay life, love, and entertainment.
My goal, as many know, was always
covering daily LGBT life from cradle to
grave. Lots of people will laugh this off, but
it's a fact and I can prove it here.
Fighting Oppression: One cannot judge the
damage of oppression by the bad actions
of the oppressed. This resides solely on the
oppressors. The oppressor may be acting for
fun but the oppressed are acting for their
existence.
Back in the day, gays worried often of
being victimized by a gay bashing or
outing. Even its conviction could be
based on suspicion, as we all know its
punishment was swift and cruel. Gays,
like other minorities, were so terrified of
it they would rather be beaten to death
than outed. But then a miracle happened.
We became a protected class because we
got a voice. That voice came only from the
LGBT community. But nearly every night,
extortion dried up and we began to rise
swiftly and contribute to society as normal
humans.
Mental Health: We have many types,
from the extraordinarily damaged, some
enormously gifted but most with a sense
of equality thats is gifted automatically.
Many white or affluent are able to help
themselves freely to earth's bounty. But
unlike the others, we extended to all people
rich or poor, those with a booming voice
or those with a quiet touch. From those
who like a quite bar, to the ones that enjoy
the sexuality of a charged night of sexual
freedom or want to dress their own way. If
you are bothered by that, we will feel free
to set you correct. I wanted to say straight
but in this new decade "straight" no longer
seems appropriate.
HUMAN FUCKING RIGHTS: In my opinion,
this is the last frontier to be conquered.
The question of our very democracy is
in play in this election. We are a nation
divided and on the verge of civil war. One
side armed and sufficiently delusional to
think violence is a viable solution. It is
grown to its highest level since the civil war,
but we have been here many times since.
Human Rights is really the heart of the
issues. We cannot continue to have the life
we want if we turn our backs on those in
need.
What makes it more scary is that this is
the first time in the history of man that the
oppressed has a nearly equal voice. We are
just beginning to see that and we have the
right tools to break the yoke of oppression.
The UN;s meesage this year was a warning
and a call for more justice. The current
administration has put justice and rights
into a slave auction. They no longer have
our back, just a body of scolder's, but
seeking our help to give them the power to
help us.
Secretary-General António Guterres said
in his New Year’s message that “we cannot
afford to be the generation that fiddled
while the planet burned”.
But “there is also hope”, he continued,
paying tribute to the power of youth
around the planet.
The United Nations stands with you, and
belongs to you – UN Secretary-General
“From climate action to gender equality
to social justice and human rights, your
generation is on the front-lines and in the
headlines”, he said. “I am inspired by your
passion and determination”.
Noting that young people are “rightly
demanding a role in shaping the future”, he
said: “I am with you”.
“The United Nations stands with you – and
belongs to you” spelled out the Secretary-
General.
They are launching a Decade of Action
for the Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs).
