Kaikoura projects to get $11m<br />

Fletcher Tabuteau,of<br />

Provincial Growth Fund<br />

fundingfor two major projects<br />

in thedistrict.<br />

There will be $9.88 million<br />

for redeveloping Wakatu Quay<br />

into amixed­use commercial,<br />

retail and hospitality area;and<br />

$1.1m for abusiness casefor<br />

developing the harbour at<br />

South Bay.<br />

“This is an exciting and<br />

significant endorsementof<br />

Kaikoura’s recovery and its<br />

bright future,” Mr Mackle says.<br />

“These projects are geared<br />

towardsproviding jobs,<br />

attracting investmentand<br />

enabling sustainable growth.<br />

“Over my lifetime, South Bay<br />

Harbourhas grown from something<br />

of alocal playground<br />

where you knew to stay out of<br />

the fishermen’s way, to abusy<br />

gatewaytoour marine world.’’<br />

to swim with dolphins, watch<br />

whales,catch crays,fish,dive<br />

or just to enjoy the area.<br />
