Stopping of aPortion of Good Street, Rangiora
In exercise of the powercontained in Section319(1)(h) and Section 342(1)(a) of
the LocalGovernment Act 1974 and in accordance with the Tenth Schedule of the
Act, public notice is hereby given that the Waimakariri District Council proposes to
stop aportion of Good Street located between High Street and the Service Lane,
Section 1onSO539499.
Explanation
Section 1onSO539499 is used predominantly by members of the public for
pedestrian access and over time, the community has come to perceive this
portion of Good Street as being pedestrian centric. The Council has also received
feedback inrecent years from ratepayers expressing concerns that periodic use
of Section 1onSO539499 by vehicles represents ahazard to pedestrians.
Purpose
The Council proposes to retain ownership of Section 1onSO539499 as Local
Purpose Reserve. This portion of Good Street was ‘closed in’ anumber of
years ago with pedestrian focused features including the addition of park bench
seats and pavement tiles (instead of aformed road surface). Council intends
to undertake additional aesthetic enhancements in future consistent with its
pedestrian use if the road stopping processiscompleted.
Any future buildings or activities on the land once stopped will continue to be
governed by the Waimakariri District Plan.
