and bar on hold

A TRADITIONAL
German restaurant and
bar planned for Lincoln is
on hold after applying to
stay open later.
Oktoberfest Ltd applied
to operate a bar and restaurant
in the Rosemerryn
subdivision on Eastfield
Drive.
It will be called the Oktoberfest
Eatery and Bar.
It originally applied to
operate between Sunday-
Thursday 9am-10pm and
Friday-Saturday 9am-
11pm.
The business has now
applied to vary its hours of
operations in its resource
consent to stay open until
midnight on Friday and
Saturday and 11pm for the
rest of the week.
District council acting
regulatory manager Susan
Atherton said the application
for a liquor licence is
now on hold pending the
outcome of the variation
of resource consent.

to turn it into recreation
space for the community

Emma Stead said the
walking track should be
finished this week.
“We’ve had Pearl
Contracting doing the
perimeter of the walking
the early stages of processing
and no decisions
around notification have
been made yet,” she said.
District council staff
were unavailable on Monday
to confirm whether or
not the new hours would
have to be notified to the
public.

Jan Fryczewski told Selwyn
Times the later hours
are to cover for events and
functions.
“It is just to cover our
bases. If we have an event
or something like that
then we can stay open.
We probably will close by
about 10pm each night,
especially in winter.”
Mr Fryczewski said he
does not think they will
get much resistance from
the community.
“We had one objection
to our liquor licence but
that’s just one person.
Everyone else was quite
happy.”
The district council
received one objection to
track over the last week or
so and it is nearly finished
so that is the first stage.”
Ms Stead said the next
step is the installation of
the fitness equipment.
“We are currently working
on a fitness station that
is going to be going around
the perimeter. I think there
are six fitness stations to be
located around so people
can kind of move between
them via the walking
track.”

The bar and restaurant
would be one of five bars
in the township.
Mr Fryczewski said he
thinks there is room for
everybody.
“Lincoln is growing and
I think you need five bars
to be able to service the
local community.”
He said there point of
difference will be focusing
more on the food, not the
drinks.
“The bar and restaurant
will be traditionally
German-themed with a
full menu of food. It will
be family-friendly as well.”
In 2018 Selwyn Times
reported that Lincoln has
four bars within a kilometre
of each other with the
opening of The Flaming
Rabbit.
The Famous Grouse
Hotel, The Laboratory and
Black Door Bar and Eatery
are the others.
Pit project taking shape
They have had a great
response from the community,
she said.
“People are really excited.
We had a great turn out to
our first planting day and
we are hoping for our next
planting day in March, we
will get a whole lot more
behind that as well.”
The committee also
asked the community for
ideas to name the space
which will be decided at a
meeting next month.
