Heywood Christmas
Festival 2019
This year was yet another successful Christmas Lights
Switch On for Heywood Business Group as the team
organised a fun day out for all the family! With free
entertainment offered throughout the town, including
the Town Christmas Concert outside St Luke’s Church
throughout the afternoon, street entertainers walking
around, lots of Disney and Marvel Characters were
pottering around having their pictures taken with
children and families, together with Father Christmas
and the Grinch, whilst Blackley Brass Band played lots
of traditional Christmas tunes.
The Switch On event was kicked off with the town’s
annual Christmas Parade, with Festive floats
decorated by Mike Goldrick Window Blinds Ltd, The
Satellite Rotary Club of Heywood and St Johns Scouts
and the new addition of the Lee Rigby Bikers who
rode through the crowds on their bikes and scooters
decorated with Christmas lights and attire. Walkers
in the parade included the Heywood Civic Hall Panto,
Heap Bridge PTA, stilt-walkers and a Brass Band. The
parade was lit up by some fantastic displays and this
year they welcomed the steam engine Pearl as one of
the highlights, lit up in fairy lights and tooting along!
The lights were switched on by the Borough’s Mayor,
Billy Sheering and his wife surrounded by the towns
Councillors, before finishing off the event with the
annual Olde Queen Anne’s firework display.
It was a fantastic day and the Business Group
would like to thank all the businesses, groups and
organisations involved in this years’ event and a
special thanks goes to everyone who came along for
the event and faced the cold November afternoon,
to make it what it was!
