Show promises to<br />
cater for all tastes<br />

Therewill be something for everyone at<br />
the 104th Amuri A&P Show at the<br />
Rotherham Showgrounds on Saturday,<br />
March7.<br />
As well as the usual competitive classes,<br />
this year’s show has attracted the ‘‘Two<br />
Raw Sisters’’from Christchurch todoa<br />
cooking demonstration,while<br />
woodchopping willfeature acontest<br />
between ateam of Australianveterans<br />
against aNew Zealand selection.<br />
This year’s show will feature afood<br />
court, incorporating the UnitedFlavours<br />
of the Amurifood hub,sponsoredbyAmuri<br />
Lime and Amuri Irrigation, to giveataste<br />
of the cuisinesofsome of the cultures that<br />
now call the Amuri Basin home.<br />
Therewill also be the usualfood trucks,<br />
stalls and coffee cart,alongwithCharing<br />
CrossSheepDairy with its gelatoicecreams<br />
and specialty cheeses, Smoke ‘n’<br />
Barrel, TexasBarbecueBurgers,glutenfree<br />
food and local beers and wines.<br />
Entertainment will be provided in the<br />
food court,allowing showvisitorstosit<br />
back,relax and have somethingtoeat<br />
whileenjoyingabeer or wine.<br />
PresidentRob McIntosh willgive his<br />
speech in the main arena at 12.30pm,<br />
followed by the presentation of the Amuri<br />
A&P Association Young AchieversAward,<br />
sponsoredbyB.G. BeavenBuilders, and<br />
the J. Ballantyne &CoLtd Exhibitor of the<br />
Year Award for the besttrade site.<br />
The popular terrier race, sponsoredby<br />
<strong>North</strong><strong>Canterbury</strong> VeterinaryClinics, and<br />
alollyscramble will be held before the<br />
president’s presentations.<br />
The grand parade willfollow at 1.15pm,<br />
led by the McAlpines <strong>North</strong> <strong>Canterbury</strong><br />
Pipe Band.<br />
Othereventsinclude adisplay of<br />
artwork by localpreschools and schools in<br />
the Amuri Basin.An‘‘intergenerational<br />
lookalike’’ competitionwill be held in<br />
two categories: 02 years and 36 years.<br />
Arodeo demonstration and display will<br />
be provided featuring some of New<br />
Zealand’s top rodeoperformers in the<br />
steerriding arena. Calf and steerriding<br />
competitions, along with asheepcounting<br />
contest, will also be held in the arena,but<br />
there will be no sheepriding this year.<br />
Mulletmania, sponsored by Wilkes &Co,<br />
is sure to be hotly contest,withlocals<br />
showing off theirstyle. Thereisa$5entry<br />
fee at thesecretary’s office, with the<br />
proceeds being donated to tackle prostate<br />
cancer.<br />
The popularPedalmaniaisback,<br />
sponsoredbyMainPower, withall sorts of<br />
weird and wacky bikes on offer.<br />
The produce sheds will be open to the<br />
publicfrom 12pm to 4pm, withentries in<br />
the flower and fruit and vegetableclasses<br />
closing at 9am on the day.<br />
Awearable arts competition is being<br />
held, with late entriesaccepteduntil<br />

There are classes for junior (under12<br />
years)usingthe words‘‘bird, bird,bird,<br />
bird is the word’’asinspiration,and open<br />
classes using the words ‘‘night has always<br />
pushedupday, you must know lifetosee<br />
decay’’ to create agarment which is either<br />
80 percent from the dairyindustry, 80%<br />
wool or 80% recycled.<br />
Alicensedbar willbeavailable<br />
throughoutthe day,and showday will<br />
wrap up withacommunity barbecue, with<br />
everyone invited.<br />
Entry on the day is $8 for adults, with<br />
schoolchildren $2.<br />
