Rangiora from the past and<br />

into the future features in a<br />

new exhibition in the Gables<br />

Arcade.<br />

The Rangiora TownCentre<br />

Charismaticand<br />

Contemporary Exhibition,<br />

installed last Friday, has been<br />

set up by the Waimakariri<br />

District Council to introduce<br />

the draftRangiora town<br />

centrestrategy.<br />

It provides alook at what<br />

the town could looklike in the<br />

future, offers areminder of<br />

what it used to be like, and<br />

allowspeopleachance to<br />

comment on whatthey want to<br />

see happen.<br />

‘‘The success of the<br />

Rangiora town centreisvital<br />

in ensuring Waimakariri’s<br />

economycontinues to thrive,’’<br />

The exhibition outlines 10<br />

big projects whichinclude<br />

reinforcingthe role of High<br />

St, connecting the east to the<br />

core, developingthe BNZ<br />

corner, transforming station<br />

corner, completing<br />

development north of High St,<br />

revampingthe civic precinct,<br />

supporting the Durham St<br />

development, enabling<br />

opportunities south of High<br />

St, providing accesstothe<br />

town centre, and encouraging<br />

living in the centre.<br />

The exhibition includes an<br />

ideasboard wherepeople<br />

viewing the exhibition can<br />

have theirsay about what they<br />

wouldlike to see in the town,<br />

plus astack of forms should<br />

they choose to make alonger<br />

submission.<br />

Kaikoura workers' village to be sold<br />

The temporary Kaikoura village that<br />

housedcrew workingonearthquake<br />

recovery in Kaikoura is up for sale.<br />

The New Zealand Transport Agency<br />

has re­started the sale­by­tender<br />

process.<br />

It initially tendered it early in <strong>20</strong>19,<br />

but as extra work was added to the<br />

recovery programme, it was put on hold<br />

because the housing was stillneeded.<br />

It is owned by the agencyand<br />

KiwiRail, and is used by their delivery<br />

agent, the <strong>North</strong> <strong>Canterbury</strong> Transport<br />

InfrastructureRecovery (NCTIR)<br />

alliance.Itsits on leasedfarmland near<br />

the Kaikoura township.<br />

TransportAgency owner interface<br />

manager Colin Knaggs says the village<br />

still playsanimportant part in works<br />

along the Kaikoura coastline.<br />

NCTIR has afull workload planned<br />

throughtothe end of June, and the<br />

village will then shut down.<br />

Alternative accommodation for the<br />

remaining workers will be found in<br />

Kaikoura.<br />

There are 115 people staying in the<br />

village, down from 180 less than two<br />

months ago.<br />

Numbersstayinginthe villagevary<br />

depending on the work projects under<br />

way, Mr Knaggs says.<br />
