grind? Adventure sports are set to be a<br />

topic of conversation at the Amuri A&P<br />

Show.<br />

Local multi­sports athletes and<br />

adventurers willspeak about their<br />

experiences in the CoasttoCoastmultisport<br />

event,the Godzone adventure race,<br />

mountainbiking around the world, and<br />

the Mongol Rally.<br />

Theywill undertake their<br />

presentations in the president’s feature<br />

tentfrom 2pm at the annual showon<br />

Saturday,March 7.<br />

there will be four presentations of 15<br />

minutes each,which is sure to create<br />

someinterest and discussion among<br />

local sports enthusiasts.<br />

tackling the two­day individual challenge<br />

in the annual Coast to Coastmulti­sport<br />

event, in which competitors weave their<br />

way from Kumara Beach on the West<br />

Coast to New Brighton each <strong>February</strong> by<br />

foot, bike and kayak.<br />

McCone, Duncan Rutherford and Sara<br />

O’Neillwill speak about their<br />

experiences of competing in the<br />

gruelling GodzoneAdventure race.<br />

Godzone is amulti­day, non­stop,<br />

expedition­styleadventure raceheld in<br />

New Zealand each year.Itattracts<br />

competitors from all round the world.<br />

Graham Frith, of Hanmer Springs,has<br />

travelledaround the worldonhis<br />

mountainbike to raise awarenessof, and<br />

funds for, prostate cancer and Canteen.<br />

He will provide an account of his<br />

adventures.<br />

mile) epic journeyfrom London across<br />

mountains, desert and steppe on roads<br />

rangingfrom bad to non­existent in atiny<br />

1000cc car ‘‘bought from ascrap yard for<br />

£4.60’’, according to the MongolRally<br />

website. What could go wrong?<br />

‘‘There’s no backup.There’snoset<br />

route. There’s no guarantee you’ll make<br />

it to the end. It’sjust you, your rolling<br />

turd and aplanet­Earth­sized bucketof<br />

adventure,’’the website says<br />

Participants are requiredtoraiseat<br />

pounds(around $NZ900)going to Cool<br />

Earth,which buys back rainforest, and<br />

the balance to the charity of their choice.<br />
