Enjoying both Chinese and Korean heritage, Awkwafina was born in New York City in 1988. She first hit the headlines<br />
in 2012, when her rap music rose to prominence and started going viral on YouTube. Her first album, Yellow Ranger,<br />
was released two years later as she continued to enjoy significant success both as a musical artist and a talk show<br />
presenter. Since 2016, she has also been focusing on her career as a comedy actor, starring in a number of films before<br />
playing a leading role in the comedy-drama The Farewell in 2019. This performance won her a Golden Globe Award<br />
for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, becoming the first woman ever of Asian descent to win a<br />
Golden Globe in any lead actress film category.
