TAKE TIME TO UNWIND BEFORE YOU<br />

HIT THE BED<br />

By unwind, we don’t mean browse on your<br />

phone until your eyelids drop. Spend time<br />

with your family or take a relaxing bubble<br />

bath. A happy mind is always able to sleep<br />

better <strong>and</strong> perform to its potential. You will<br />

find meditating or involving yourself in prayer<br />

before bedtime calms all your senses after an<br />

over-stimulated day.<br />

READY YOUR BED FOR SLEEPING<br />

Freshen your sheets, pillowcases <strong>and</strong> quilts<br />

for a more luxurious sleep. Maybe add a few<br />

extra pillows to make your bed feel more<br />

inviting. Invest in sheets of soothing colours<br />

<strong>and</strong> patterns to make you mentally relaxed<br />

when in bed. Weighted blankets are a great<br />

option for those who struggle with falling into<br />

a deep sleep <strong>and</strong> find themselves waking up<br />

startled to the slightest noise.<br />

UNPLUG AND DISCONNECT<br />

Several sleep studies suggest that light <strong>and</strong><br />

radiation emitted from electronic devices<br />

hampers the quality of REM sleep. We<br />

cannot stress enough the importance of<br />

disconnecting from devices before bedtime.<br />

If you set your alarm on your phone, place<br />

it across the room from where you sleep,<br />

preferably on flight mode. This helps in so<br />

many ways. Firstly, the radiation from the<br />

phone won’t reach you. Secondly, you won’t<br />

have to deal with the constant buzzing on the<br />

phone. Thirdly, you will have to get out of<br />

bed <strong>and</strong> walk to your alarm in the morning to<br />

switch it off, which will reduce the urge to go<br />

back to sleep.<br />
