Details: volpes.co.za Live the tiki life Inspired by the tropical exotica of 1950s island-style cocktail bars, this Copeland Tiki Gin has classic London Dry ingredients (think juniper, lemon peel, coriander) making sure it’s very much a gin, but also has an exotic mix of cloves, cassia and ginger – often associated with spiced rums. The addition of tonka bean, rummy molasses and real pineapple creates a deliciousness that takes you to a beach bar … think Tiki cocktails like the Mai Tai and the Singapore Sling. What, exactly, is Tiki? It was created in the 1950s by cocktail legend Don the Beachcomber, when post-war Americans were looking for escapism. They found it in Don’s kitschy beach decor, island motifs and over the top drinks served in mystical mugs with the faces of Polynesian gods adorned with exotic fruit and flowers. Details: copelandrum.com Sunday lunch just got even better What’s a weekend without a Sunday lunch? And what’s a traditional South African Sunday lunch without seven colours on your plate? The oh-soclassy Marble in Rosebank has seriously upped the Sunday lunch stakes and launched the fabulous Seven Colour Sundays. Think plates packed with slow roasted lamb shoulder and scrumptious, fire-cooked veggies in seven colours. We’re told the menu will change regularly – always with that special Marble touch – and each time, one of the seven colours will take centre stage of the décor and cocktails. At the first Seven Colour Sundays event, ruby and rose took the spotlight … so we dressed up in our little red number, sipped rosé bubbly and realised just how much the bar’s been raised for Sunday roasts! We tucked into a really juicy shoulder of lamb from the Josper and salted rib of lamb on the coals. There’s nothing ordinary about the veggies … think mielies with mushroom and caper butter, roasted cauliflower with tomato relish and Healey’s Cheddar, and sweet carrots in sage butter. Of course the meal wouldn’t be complete without Marble’s deliciously famous fries, and the ‘breyani’ of rice, lentil and butternut was totally moreish. These Sunday lunches are in partnership with Kaya FM … so with full stomachs and happy hearts, we moseyed to the bar to groove to some soulful sounds curated by the station’s Greg Maloka – and you can too from 4pm to 8pm.
